Tal Bagels — Restaurant in New York

I go here often, so this review is based on a wide sample size. Most often it’s a good experience, with very fresh bagels/toppings and efficient if curt staff. They also have an outdoor pickup window which is great while dog walking. But the past two experiences have left something to be desired: -last time, bagel was missing the two most important/expensive ingredients — meaning I literally got a lettuce and cream cheese bagel. Really not sure what happened there. Obviously only looked when I got home and it was too late to get it meaningfully resolved -today, the guy at the pickup window was needlessly rude and toxic. He refused to open the window to speak to me and kept aimlessly pointing at things. It was apparent that he wanted the order number, despite me repeating my name, but I couldn’t find it on the Postmates app, so he literally didn’t want to give me the order. I understand that pick up restaurants need to do their due diligence to make sure people are not stealing others’ orders, but the hostility and sourness was just so unnecessary. Before I wrote this I read a few other reviews about Tal(That’s what you do at 7 am). Unfortunately the negative ones are petty reasons written by people that have no understanding that people do make small mistakes. But that’s with every place it’s seems.

Just moved back and couldn’t wait for Tal! My partner and I both consider this the New York bagel place by definition. We came here for years prior. Tried the rest….this is the best. Came back to only find it’s still true.

The staff is alway quick, hardworking and friendly. And for gods sake, they use FRESH jalapeños in the smear. All the other hacks use pickled and it’s embarrassing for them. Tried the hot pastrami finally as well. Absolutely spot on!

As a bottom line to base a bagel(as you would with a cheese slice at a pizza spot).These bagels are fresh, airy, chewy, not too dense, and full of flavor. Best in the city!!!

Went with 2 stars originally, but had to reduce to 1. Called to complain about below screw up, and I got angry lip from the woman (clearly entitled, as she is definitely related to someone in the ownership) with an attitude many other reviewers despise. Today’s excuse was: “I did not make the bagel, I just take the order”. Good one... you should try toll booths or ticket maid as a career choice, you have the charisma for it.

Great bagels, 100% of deliveries are NOT WHAT WE ORDERED. I literally have never received exactly what I asked for. Today it was a bagel that we asked them to toast, asked to repeat the order, and they still messed it up. The last two times they put the wrong cream cheese on the bagel, and once I got a plain bagel instead of raisin with no heads up.
