Sometimes the best meals are born out of a delivery mix-up; and that was exactly the case with our recent experience at Taqueria El Chiltepin. What started as a frustrating DoorDash snafu (where our food arrived suspiciously packaged as Wendyâs) quickly turned into a culinary redemption story, thanks to the kindness and professionalism of the team behind this Bronx gem. Upon calling the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by Paulina, whose tone and hospitality instantly shifted our mood.
She not only apologized mind you this had nothing to do with their restaurant; but invited us to come directly to the restaurant to receive the correct order. Once we arrived, the energy and ambiance of El Chiltepin swept us into what felt like a brief getaway to the heart of Mexico; rich with authenticity, vibrant decor, and a sincere sense of community.
While picking up our original order, we couldnât help but be enticed by the menu and ended up ordering three more items, bringing our total to five: Three orders of Cheese Flautas One order of Steak Nachos One Horchata beverage The Flautas were crispy, golden, and generously filled, satisfying both in flavor and portion. Upon chatting with Alex; who matched Paulina's level of graciousness; we discovered we had been over-ordering in previous visits.
We had been getting three-piece Flauta orders at $30 each, when we couldâve gotten five sticks instead. His transparency and care in educating us on the best way to order not only saved us money but solidified our trust in the business.
The Steak Nachos were a savory standout; freshly fried chips loaded with seasoned steak, gooey cheese, and a medley of toppings that didnât overwhelm. And the Horchata? Smooth, creamy, and perfectly spiced; an ideal refresher to top off the meal. Final Thoughts:â¨Taqueria El Chiltepin is more than just a local taqueria; itâs a whole experience. The food is consistently satisfying, but itâs the people like Paulina and Alex who elevate the visit into something memorable. Whether you're dining in or recovering from a DoorDash disaster, this is the kind of place that makes you feel seen, heard, and well-fed....
Read moreHands down one of the best dining experiences Iâve had! I found this restaurant through a TikTok video that mentioned they serve barbacoa de chivo (tender goat meat) on weekendsâso I decided to take my dad here for Fatherâs Day. We ordered the birria tacos with handmade tortillas, and let me tell you⌠those tortillas are a 10/10âabsolutely worth it!
My dad got the ribeye, and he gave it a solid 10/10 as well. Of course, we came for the barbacoa, and it did not disappoint. Words canât describe how good it was tender, flavorful, and unforgettable.
The drinks were also amazing. My mom loved the tamarind, and I personally went for the Jamaica. Both perfectly refreshing and just the right amount of sweetness to complement the food.
To top it all off, we had the homemade flan and churros absolutely delicious.
But what really made the experience even better was the outstanding service. Shoutout to Alex and Paulina for taking the time to explain the menu and make sure everything was perfect from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Their hospitality was top-tier.
This is a family-owned Mexican restaurant that I would 100% recommend to anyone in the areaâor even if you have to make a little trip. Itâs so worth...
Read moreI went in yesterday as a birthday gift. I have been there a few times before and I never had a bad experience. The host, he is professional. He is always smiling and has a dope energy to him. Cleanliness wise itâs always very clean. On the other hand, It was busier than usual so Iâm not sure if that was the reason but yesterday the food was less than ideal and lackluster. We ordered the chimichanga which was drenched in oil and basically I couldnât finish eating it. It was inedible. The nachos and guacamole, the guacamole was ok but I still donât know why they added oil to it. Unnecessary. The nachos on the other hand were awful, it tasted old, not fresh at all. Couldnât finish it. Lastly the tiramisu was from like two days old I think. It didnât look fresh and tasted the way it looked. It wasnât fresh. So basically after this trash experience, Iâm gonna stay away and have my moneyâs...
