There are very few things that can elicit one star from me, but this restaurant asking for the food they got wrong BACK upon delivering the correct, replacement order is one of them. It’s essentially implying lying. The last two times I ordered the tacos dorados (filled flautas), they got the filling wrong. I always select cheese, not chicken, because I’m vegetarian. And it’s not as if I’m writing this in the notes and making an amendment…it’s an OFFERED OPTION, just cheese. I checked a box. And they still got it wrong twice in a row. The last time, I waited for the replacement, and tossed the incorrect dish. This time, I picked the corn tortilla off of the chicken it surrounded and ate that while waiting because I was starving. It’s MY RIGHT to do as I wish with the thing I didn’t order but they sent anyway. If I want to give it to my boyfriend to eat tomorrow, that is not scamming the system. They can’t legally or ethically sell it to anyone else. So to require that I give it back to them 1) is for no practical purpose and therefore 2) implies I’ve lied about the other dish being wrong, which is 3) insanely rude and unacceptable. Way...
Read moreAs New Yorkers we have a surprisingly strong Mexican representation here given how far we are away from the border.
Having never visited, and having never visited California, I’m far from an expert on good Mexican cuisine, but I’m fairly well traveled and have been lucky enough to have had plenty of exposure to good quality food. I would rate TaqEm as excellent budget hole-in-the-wall Mexican food.
The ingredients are always fresh, the service is prompt, and the flavorings are on point - never too strong, never too weak. I always tend to have the chipotle chicken tacos, mainly because they understand that chipotle as a pepper isn’t suited to making a dish spicy, it’s actually more about flavor. Their chipotle chicken has excellent flavor with a dash of heat. If you like it hot, you probably want to ask them to up the spice (I don’t, and it suits me perfectly).
The prices are excellent, the service always comes with a smile, and you can’t miss the bright orange front to the restaurant. If you’re going for the first...

Service is quick and food is excellent tasting. Highly recommended for anyone looking to eat well and under a budget.
I had 2 soft shell tortilla with beef, garnish comes with onions, cilantro, pico de Gallo, lettuce, sour cream and cotija cheese. The cashier/chef took my order medium instead of cooking the beef throughly, and it was sublime.
I couldn’t resist to come back another day so I ordered Tortas with chicken (option of beef and chicken is available but the chef said chicken is more popular). It comes with choice of beef or chicken, lettuce, tomato, beans, Oaxaca cheese, mayo jalapeño and avocado. The chef said its big and it was massive!
The meat is fried and I don’t think I’ve eaten anything so umami and comforting. I don’t think I’ll ever eat anything...
