06/21/19 this place got one star because i cant give zero. if you call or go in person a 1lb cake de crema de leche cost 55$. yet my wife order a one for my bday with certain decorations. when i picked up the cake i though they charge me twice. bcuz it was 120$ yet it was a all white cake flat everywhere with two cloth lines around it. thats it. same cake on display jus no borders all white. imitating a fond icing. when its not. when my wife send me the picture and was nothing like it. and she saw it aswell. didnt want it. i think if you order a cake from a picture and the bakery attempt to make it and fail. why do you have to pay for it. the only pregnant worker lady there trying to give me my refund on my card with her nasty attitude. for what ever reason wasnt able to because didnt know how to use the machine and was on the phone with someone else tellin her the steps. then tells me shes giving me the refund because she wants to but doesnt have to. after another argument she said she not returning my money so i decided to call my bank and cancel the unauthorized charge. they kept the cake btw. unprofessional overprice cakes. another dominican lady said im must not be from here thats what cakes cost for 1lb 120$ with no decorations.
im dominican aswell . born and raised. dyckman what im not is a pendejo. you can tell she doesnt have much time here and look the way she talks to customer so unprofessional..

Read moreVery disappointed. Me & my family have placed numerous orders from here. I placed an order for picadera for my baby shower on October 4th. I paid in full over the phone & I picked up the order on October 6th. When I got to the event I was distributing the patelitos & quipes on to different plates to put some on each table. When I got to the bottom of the tray, I noticed there was a dead roach in there. I quickly threw all the patelitos & quipes back in & threw away the tray, because it’s common sense that I’m not going to keep a tray of food with a dead rodent in it. Mind you it was already 10pm so I couldn’t call them since they were already closed. I decided to call them the next day in the afternoon & spoke to management. Lady was very unwilling to help nor was accommodating. She tried to say that they don’t have roaches there so it could have crawled in after I picked it up. I reiterated that the trays stood completely closed entire time & were not opened until event. Also, of course they are not going to admit to having roaches. You can be the cleanest & still have roaches especially being in NYC. Lady was unapologetic & had an attitude the entire time. She stated there was nothing they can do since I threw away the tray & didn’t bring it back to them as proof. I advised I had picture proof & would be posting a bad review online since she was so unwilling to help. She stated she would just comment back & negate what I said. Very unprofessional, bad customer service, dirty, & would never...
Read moreUpdate 2/6/25: I'm back and not disappointed! May God bless the hands that make these cakes! Today I got my pieces of cake: guava, pineapple and tres leches. My daughter got the guava piece and she let me try a bite and OMG! DELISH! moist, right consistency , fluffy, perfect! I couldn't help myself and tried a bite of the tres leches and it was amazing! I also got some pan de agua which I haven't had if ages. I will update you on how those came out. But, De colores still reigns supreme in my book. Best Dominican bakery in NYC. HIGHLY recommend it!
Update: yesterday I ordered a cake (pineapple filling) from De Colores and for the first time on 22 year of ordering from here, i was disappointed with my cake. It didn't have the expected delicious Dominican cake flavor. It had the consistency and taste of a box cake 😭 and the frosting had an oily after taste. I'm hoping it is just a one off, (which is ok) and not that they are losing their signature deliciousness. I'm not writing this update to bring them down, but hopefully to bring the awareness to the possible changes happening, maybe without them knowing. This is still my very favorite bakery and i hope it doesn't lower it's quality.
By far, the best Dominican cake I've had in the USA. I purposely plan trips into Washington heights from queens just to grab a piece. Only place i know people have driven an hour our of their way just to grab a piece of cake, just one piece cuz, it's...
