I recently visited Tartinery Café - Bar in Greenwich Village, a spot that seems to have garnered an array of positive reviews, which made me quite eager to experience it for myself. Unfortunately, my visit did not align with the glowing feedback I had read.
To begin with, the ambiance of the café is charming, fitting the quaint and cozy vibe of Greenwich Village. The decor is stylish and inviting, which initially set a pleasant tone for our brunch. However, the overall experience fell short in several aspects.
Our main issue was with the food, particularly the Eggs Benedict. We ordered this classic dish with the expectation of a well-executed breakfast, but it was disappointing from the start. The first attempt at our Eggs Benedict arrived with the eggs prepared sunny side up, which was not what we requested. When we sent it back, we were hopeful for a corrected version. However, the second attempt still did not meet our expectations, coming out with a runny poached egg instead of the over-medium style we had specified. It was a frustrating experience, especially considering the price of the dish, which was on the higher side.
Aside from the missteps with our order, the overall flavor of the food left much to be desired. The dishes, while presented nicely, lacked the depth of taste and seasoning one might expect from a café with such a reputation. The food felt rather bland and underwhelming, which was surprising given the establishment's positive reviews.
To sum up, Tartinery Café - Bar in Greenwich Village has a lovely setting but fell short in terms of food quality and service during my visit. The repeated mistakes with our Eggs Benedict and the lackluster flavors of the dishes made it a rather disappointing experience. Given the high praise it receives, perhaps this was an off day, but it’s hard to overlook the letdown, especially with the higher price point.
I hope this feedback helps others manage their expectations and encourages the café to address these issues for...
Read moreTartinery Café in Greenwich is one of those rare spots that manages to be effortlessly chic without even trying. Tucked into a peaceful corner of the city, it’s a quiet cool-down haven, perfect for escaping the heat, the noise, or just your own to-do list.
I stopped by for lunch and ordered the ham and Swiss tartine, which proved to be far more interesting than its modest name suggests. This wasn’t your standard deli affair—this was layered, textured, and delightfully complex, with a smart vinegar kick that kept things lively. It was the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-chew to say, “Wait, what is that?” in the best possible way.
And then there was the matcha. I say this with no exaggeration: it tasted like it took itself seriously—in a good way. None of that sweetened, frothy, matcha-for-beginners stuff here. This was deep, earthy, and borderline bitter, in a way that made it taste like ceremonial grade matcha had entered the chat. If you’re a true matcha enthusiast, this one will hit just right.
The indoor/outdoor seating adds to the charm: sunny without being sweltering, shaded just enough to sip slowly, and perfect for pretending you’ve casually relocated to a stylish European suburb. Add in the sweet, attentive servers, and the whole experience feels thoughtful without being overly polished.
In short: Tartinery Café is the kind of place where every bite feels considered, every sip feels curated, and the atmosphere does all the heavy lifting of relaxation for you. A perfect little Greenwich retreat—tartine in hand,...
Read moreCame here for a late lunch meeting with a potential business partner. There was a bit of a crowd but nothing overwhelming. All of the tables are practically on top of each other so you have to do that awkward squeeze between tables in order to sit down (you know, where your ass is practically in someone else’s face lol). Because we were so close to the people next to us, it was sometimes hard to hear each other speak. There seemed to only be 1 waiter and tbh he wasn’t really paying much attention to the tables. The poor guy sitting next to me had been there way before I arrived and he actually had to ask ME if the waiter was going to come take or order or if we had to go up to the bar! By the time I flagged the waiter down, I had been sitting for 10 mins without even being offered some water.
When I finally ordered, I got the Tartine burger (with salad instead of fries) and the apple spritz. The burger was good. I asked for some mustard for it which made it even better. It was a little oily, though. The bun was soaked in oil and dangerously close to being soggy. The spritz was meh. Too sweet and almost zero alcohol. I only ordered it because of happy hour; I should’ve known better.
Total for my bill was $31. Overall, the place is overpriced for what you get. Don’t think I’ll return. I will say, the baked items looked...
