Tex’s Chicken & Burgers — Restaurant in New York

This location replaced the KFC that was here previously. I prefer the Colonel's secret spices and menu but this is a nice chain with very polite staff. They have dine-in and take out.

I've tried their regular and spicy chicken, some of their sides, and their burgers.

The chicken is prepared very consistently. It almost always has crunchy batter and juicy meat which are big points for them. One negative is that I don't think much flavor penetrates into the chicken meat itself (e.g. the spicy chicken batter makes the skin very spicy and crunchy, but the chicken itself is lacking in flavor).

With KFC gone, the only competition now is Popeyes. I prefer Popeyes chicken but I find the local Popeyes to be very inconsistent (e.g. strange batter to meat ratio, dry chicken 50% of the time).

The burgers taste like a burger you might get at a family BBQ. Not great, but can't complain that much.

The fries surprisingly maintain their crunch being in the box with the chicken as they seem to be slightly coated with cornstarch/flour and have a great mouth texture. However, perhaps in an attempt to be more health-conscious, not much salt is added and the fries are a bit bland as a result.

The corn on the cob doesn't seem ordered often, and unfortunately taste like microwaved corn, wasn't sweet at all and very watery in my case. Maybe a bad batch.

The biscuits are Pillsbury biscuits and taste as good as those do.

Chocolate cookies are made competently, no complaints. Gooey chocolate and cookie batter.

Mashed potatoes and gravy are good. It's a simple brown gravy with very silky potatoes, no chunks at all. It could be reconstituted potatoes, but it is acceptable nonetheless.

To me the most notable things are: ++Chicken has been juicy and consistent in my experience.

++They have very budget-friendly combo for lunch (not that you'd have fried chicken every meal) that makes a meal accessible to almost anyone at the time of this review. 4$ for a 3pc chicken and biscuit. 5$ for a 2pc chicken, cookie, and fries.

++Staff has been polite in my experience.

+Dining area is generally clean.

+Bathroom is available/accessible

+No more sickly rotten smell from the old KFC drink dispenser area.

-Menu items can be bland, some of the sides appeae to be outsourced items (but prepared competently). Some of that can't be helped, and not fault...

I DoorDashed the food so I didn’t get a whole experience but as soon as it landed at the door for me and I kid you not but i couldn’t help but see a powerful golden aura around the bag like gift from god

So let’s get to the juicy point of this. I got a good burger with fries so I was already excited getting my order but when i took my first bite out of this good burger with its mysterious sauce I swear I fell in love with whoever cooked this and I mean the meat was just super juicy within the creamiest cheese and lettuce that weren’t too wet or too dry and the buns holding the burger was perfect with its softness that almost put my finger to sleep within its cushiony outer layer of its shiny shell I will also say that the secret sauce is everything to me because when I get fries or a burger I usually order honey mustard with it and I mean trying the secret sauce and thinking about the taste of it I’ll say that this was my honey mustard sauce but put into a burger and served.

The fries were super crunchy and filling but I do wish I had gotten ketchup with it but that wasn’t a big issue because I used the secret sauce for the fries which elevated the experience so I can’t complain but otherwise it was an amazing time for me and I’d order the same again from...

Me and my wife came to this store .. "The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy inside exceeded my expectations.. The creamy mayo and pickles added a nice tang that balanced the flavors beautifully. The bun was soft and fluffy, and the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh 🥬🍅.
