I previously wrote a review on the Elmont location of Tex’s Chicken and Burgers, and they scored terribly due to poor customer service. However, compared to this location, Hillside beats them!
The service at this Hillside location was definitely faster compared to Elmont, but the ladies upfront barely knew any English, which made communication a bit difficult. Despite this, I appreciated the quicker service.
I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich combo, and it was the tastiest sandwich I’ve tried from their chains. It was flavorful and had just the right amount of spice. However, the fries that came with it lacked flavor and could use some improvement.
I also got the 20-piece chicken nuggets, but they were a big disappointment. They were soft, lacked breading, and weren’t crispy at all. They barely had any taste and weren’t worth it, almost tasting like freezer food. This was surprising, knowing that Tex’s prides itself on handmade items.
Overall, while the Hillside location has better service speed than Elmont, it still has some major areas for improvement, especially with the fries and chicken nuggets. Hopefully, they can work on these aspects to provide a better...
Read moreWe love getting food from Texas. However, this is the second time we're coming here and their grill is closed. Their hours are listed as closing at 3:30AM every day except 4:30AM on Friday and Saturday. We came at 2AM and were told they only have fried chicken, and another time we came around 3AM on a weekend and was told it was too late. They never pick up the phone either, so how are we supposed to know when they decide to shut the grill? Not everyone lives 5 minutes away. I called the store in front of the worker and it rang. The worker told me they were busy. But they never pick up their phone.
I worked in fast food before, I get it. Nobody likes last minute customers especially when the workers are cleaning and trying to go home. But closing the grill and starting cleaning 2 hrs before actual closing time, c'mon now. Either pick up the phone to inform your customers who actually go out of their way to inquire about hours, or just change your hours. Maybe add in a disclaimer, like we shut off the grill 2 hrs before actual posted closing time, and only sell fried chicken from that point on.
Now that I got my rant out of the way, I love the...
Read moreTried this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. I know it’s specialty is chicken but I got the seafood meal, for only $6.50 (after tax) you get crab cakes, fish, coleslaw, crumbed prawns and fries. The mini crab cakes were delicious, the fries were nice and crunchy (well drained of oil and fresh), the coleslaw also had a good texture (fresh) and I was amply supplied with tartare sauce. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the pieces of fish, which was mostly batter and tasted like the generic assortment straight out of the frozen foods section at your local supermarket. Otherwise very happy with the value for money. They have a lot of great promotions on at the moment and a menu with great variety. This surprisingly spacious, there’s a second area to the restaurant that is all seating, the restaurant has very well adhered to social distancing requirements and looks very clean.
** advice to those ordering off of uber eats, if you’re in the area you are better off going in person. For the exact same meal I ordered today for $6.50, I saw for $10.99 (BEFORE tax).
Happy eating all!...
