Being on dyalsis and with a limited budget things are getting very difficult cause of inflation . During dyalsis the machine takes all the vitamins and other good stuff & patient feel very hungry during treatment .Since 2010 on dyalsis I used to make food home and ate at 3 times a week treatment but with time passing it's now hard in the morning to cook or toast & make egg omelette etc .So last few weeks I tried to get two bagels toasted with jelly or butter .( Tea I make from home ) . Dunkin donuts is now out of reach of poor class ( one bagel &1:79 + 0:60 for butter .if muffin each muffin is $2:49 ) so if someone needs two muffins or bagels has to pay $5 and remember there is no tea or coffee in this price add more than $2 for that ) I did try to get this kind of food to help me at dyalsis but at the end of the month figured out that it's very expensive .I used to go to a Italian bakery at 81 street and Northern Blvd Variety Bakery .So I decided to go there .Got three bagels toasted for $3 ( each for $1) .was very impressed that now I will save some money as I buy a jelly bottle for $2:99 and plastic spoons bag for $1:25 dollar store) .this thing works for few days .today riding towards dyalsis center I again stopped at Variety Bakery and before going in check my jelly bottle it was almost empty .So I ordered two sesame bagels toasted with light very light butter .two Italian rool .the total bill came $5:80 I payed the lady $6 she returned me 0:20 cents. I give her $1 tip .and started walking out .then I turned back and asked the lady how much a toasted bagel is ? She said $1 .I said and Italian rool ? She said 0:65 cents .I did the math 2 Italian rool each 0:65 is =$1:30 and two sesame bagels toasted with butter they charge me $2:25+$2:25 $4:50 2baggels $4:50 2italian rolls $1:30 $5:80 So just to put a little butter on a bagel customer has to pay $1:25 on each bagel ? She said yes this is how the owners has ordered and it's right here on menu on the wall . My problem is there is no question that this bakery is one of the best bakeries in NY fresh and super good quality but charging a whopping $ 1:25 for butter ( if need jelly 0:50 more total $2:75 ) .is insane .yes inflation has hit the country but some one has to acknowledge that it's not just economy it's we humans who are just making profits .. the bottom line is Dunkin donuts charge $0:60 for butter and 0:25 for jelly and $1:79 for bagel at Northern Blvd and 71 street while Variety Bakery charge $ 1:25 for butter $0:50 for jelly and $1 for bagel .. it means there is no way for a poor person to get cheap food except go buy in bulk from...
Read moreevery single time I come to this bakery I leave disappointed. Now I donât know how their whole cakes are but DO NOT buy the cake slices!! On various occasions they were extremely stale and not fresh at all. I purchased a slice of cheesecake for the first time and it was chewy, stale and it crumbled. I gave them the benefit of doubt and went again, same thing. How can you call yourself a bakery and not serve fresh produce and instead sell things like FOOD that is expired that can physically make people unwell. I even complained to a friend and she experienced the same thing especially with the cheesecakes. That is disgusting and also robbery, why spend hard earned money on something that isnât fresh or replaced when itâs supposed to. Absolutely turned off, me and a group of friends have stopped coming here as well due to the quality of the cakes. Once this establishment takes proper care of their produce, maybe then they will be more deserving of the money we work so hard for, as for now I will go to a different...
Read moreHow odd, I was looking over the reviews of Variety Bakery and was taken abit back. There were a bunch of bad reviews.I do not think that they deserve the bad reviews that I read. I've been shopping at this bakery probably for 20 years. While some of their products are not award winning, Most are fantastic. their fresh baked breads are great, and their cannoli are some of the best in queens. As far as price goes, this bakery has great prices. Service on a good day is good, not great. On a bad day a bit on the slow side. Hey I don't care how the service is, as long as the baked goods are good! BTW their Horseshoe semolina is delicious and...
