From the moment I walked into Top Tier, I knew I was in for something special—but I had no idea just how special. Unsure of what to order, I was immediately greeted with a warm smile and offered samples from different parts of the menu, sides included. That kind of genuine hospitality is so rare these days, and it had me smiling before I even placed an order.
But then—I took that first bite. The collard greens? Tears. Real tears. I haven’t tasted greens like that since my grandmother passed away 25 years ago. One bite, and I was transported straight back to her kitchen, standing barefoot on the linoleum floor, soaking up love with every forkful. It wasn’t just a meal—it was a memory, a moment, a full-circle blessing.
Since that day, I’ve been back three times, and each visit has been just as remarkable. The service remains outstanding, full of kindness and care. I even sent someone else to check it out, just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke—and they came back raving about it too.
And let me tell you about the food. Everything I’ve tried so far has been phenomenal. The jerk turkey wings? Packed with flavor and fall-off-the-bone tender. The honey garlic wings? A perfect balance of sweet and savory. The soul food mac and cheese is a creamy, cheesy masterpiece, and the string beans are seasoned to perfection. The potato salad will have you licking the fork, and the macaroni salad? Simply over the moon.
I even got a complimentary serving of salmon and grits the other day—and I kid you not—it was the best fish and grits I’ve ever had in my entire life. The catfish and whiting are just as impressive—crispy, well-seasoned, and cooked with love.
And here’s the cherry on top: the prices. Not only is the food out-of-this-world delicious, but the prices are better than other, more “well known” soul food spots in the area. You’re getting top-notch quality, unbeatable flavor, and warm, memorable service—all at a better value. You truly can’t lose.
If you’re looking for soul food that actually feeds your soul, Top Tier is it. No question. They’ve left every other spot in the area in the dust—by a thousand miles. This place isn’t just...
Read moreI used Top Tier Catering to provide the meal for my husband’s 50th birthday celebration. We only invited our immediate family members (no big party with extended family and friends due to COVID-19) and I usually cook for family get togethers. However, in the July heat and humidity, I preferred to outsource this task and focus on other aspects of the festivities.
Well, Top Tier Catering did an awesome job! Chef Shawn was professional and responsive in his communications with me, the food was delivered in timely fashion and in compliance with health requirements (hot items were HOT, the macaroni salad was COLD, the delivery driver wore a protective face mask).
I ordered a la carte trays of some of my husband’s soul food favorites, such as fried catfish, fried chicken wingettes, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, collard greens and macaroni salad. To round things off, I also ordered short ribs in brown gravy, Henny wings (made with a sweet and tangy cognac sauce) and cornbread.
My family complimented the home cooked taste of the food and raved about how delicious things were. The short ribs were tender and falling off the bone in a seasoned brown gravy, the catfish and chicken wingettes were also well fried and seasoned (not too greasy, crunchy or overly salty). The greens and candied yams were made from fresh vegetables and the baked macaroni and cheese was creamy and didn’t skimp on cheese. The other side dishes were also tasty and my mouth is watering as I type this review (and reminisce).
My sisters are already angling for our family to use Top Tier to cater Christmas dinner instead of cooking. Lol
Kudos to Top Tier Catering for surpassing my expectations. I would definitely use their services for a...
Read moreI ate here today for the first time and I was pleased overall. I be so skeptical about trying new soul food restaurants because I’ve had not so good or very subpar soul food in the past. I had the catfish dinner with mac and cheese and yams. I think I would’ve liked the whiting fish better and will try it next time. The catfish wasn’t bad though. The mac and cheese was delicious! I was so surprised by how good it was. The yams were also delicious and wasn’t overly sweet. I had an extra side of macaroni salad since they didn’t have potato salad. I didn’t care for the macaroni salad. It had a lot of the relish flavor in my opinion. I would’ve liked if it was some finely diced onion and maybe some bell peppers in it to give it a pop of flavor. I ordered a side of wings with the sweet heat sauce. The wings were a very nice size and the sauce was delicious. It was like a hot sauce with honey. I would’ve liked if the wings were fried a bit harder. I will make sure to request the wings being fried hard next time. I had banana pudding which was okay. The color wasn’t the usual pale yellow and it wasn’t as thick as I would’ve liked it to be. I did like that it had a lot of cookies and a little bit of bananas. Service was A1. I really appreciate good customer service. I will definitely return again for the mac and cheese, yams, and wings and to try some of the...
