Valencia Bakery — Restaurant in New York

Went to visit from New Britain Connecticut-my husband family! But my husband n I live in VirginiaBeach! So I was Born in NYC so I love love Valencia cake grew up with eating cakes! Walk-in the person was talking to a customer- yell at me put your mask mask up-scare me but I was never yell to put my mask all the way up it was on but under my nose- then he finish with the person he was talking too! He didn't say Hello how can I help you none of that he was rude and arrogant, I asked him if he had cakes he said over there with his hand we have all of those- I said okay I looked then I said I want one 6" and one8 in He said he didn't have anymore 6 in so told him 2 8 in pineapple he went to get them. Them he opened them up he didn't asked if I wanted something on them or sprinkles or anything he said $58.50! If he was the manger he needs management skills, no thank you no nothing he is lucky I didn't curse him out because I am the customer- degrading my Puerto Rican heritage,,and the fact we came 2 hours away was disappointing! Let him know if he didn't want to be there get someone else to work! He is lucky I don't live in NYC but Valencia Bakery been around since I was 13 years old! They should value their customer not treat them like nobody! Without people like me you would not have customers to buy n keep your business going!,

We also asked if they were affiliated with Valencia in Connecticut and was very rude by responding!, I hope when I go next time you've better...

I give two stars because the cake was beautiful. However, when I got to this location to pick up the cake it wasn’t ready. I was like okay this is becoming repetitive. Second baby shower cake I get and it isn’t ready. I then proceeded to calm my self because the previous cake that wasn’t done was delicious, so I said to my self this cake is going to taste amazing. The guy tells me I can wait for the delivery guy to pick it up and bring it or I can go get it at the headquarters location. I then say to myself, it’s almost 2. My baby shower starts at 2. I’m the pregnant woman here. So, I just go and get it. I get there and wait a bit because they are still doing whatever they are doing to it. They bring it out and I think their interpretation of what I wanted was good. Not going to complain. Get the cake to the park after getting there late and some of my guest leaving because I didn’t get there until after 4pm we had to take pictures with the cake and cut it. Cake came out gorgeous in all pictures. I loved it. Once again however when I took a bite of the cake it was the most driest cake I’ve ever ate. The cake it self tasted as if it sat in the refrigerator for 2 days. How could that be when it wasn’t ready when I went to pick it up…. Right??? I didn’t get a discount for having to pick it up and wait. Nothing. To get to the point of this long review and rant I will never ever order from here again. Don’t understand why for the second time this...

Extremely dry cake. Either this location is selling old cakes or Valencia is making arid, gritty cakes. A big disappointment for I am a lifelong Valencia fan. Makes me think twice in buying another cake from the store. For the price it is nowadays, I can get better quality at Magnolia for a little bit more.

Update: my mom graciously bought me a slice of Valencia cake (the traditional pineapple layers one) which is now a square shape and placed into a plastic container. It’s safe to conclude that I don’t think Valencia knows what to do to improve their cakes. The square cake slice is drowning in a liqueur/syrup and very messy. It tastes like a dry, grainy cake with a sweet liquid, then it hardly has any frosting. It’s basically a block of wet cake. I don’t know why Valencia felt it was a good thing to make it into a wet cake with no icing. What’s the rationale with this mess??!

Tried the Bendito cake, too, it’s another wet mess with whipped icing. Nothing resembling an authentic, classic Valencia cake.

Really wish Valencia was never sold to the current owners. They are ruining Valencia’s legacy and original flavors.

But at least my daughter...
