Overall great experience. Was present for a 4 day visit. Breakfast included: boiled eggs, pastries, instant oatmeal, bagels, croissant, bread, muffins, strawberry pop tart singles, fresh fruit, fruit bowl, juice bar, Nespresso machine with beverage choices. Staff make accommodations when necessary such as extra towels and sheets; Promptly and with respect. Was disappointed that my tub stopper wasn't working (brought Epsom salts to soak and couldn't) when I couldn't get my tub to drain in the middle of the night their maintenance was spot on! 👍 The room was SO spacious and everyone in the family had the room to spread out. This is a smoke free facility. I did have one negative encounter my entire stay...it was regarding parking my vehicle in their 7 car garage. I'm not from NY, I have no clue how to navigate where to enter their property. I called the front desk because I had overheard you call ahead of arrival just to verify whether or not there's a spot available. But I interacted with a different evening shift staff because I didn't park there on my first night of arrival, but the woman I spoke with copped an attitude with me both over the telephone and then in person when we met. I called to ask how to access their parking area, the response I was given: simply navigate to their address, put it in my Google maps. But you have to drive around the block just to gain access to the back of the location. Google doesn't take you to the garage, just the "storefront" so be wary if you're coming into town via motor vehicle. And also, call them only if you are 5 minutes away and know exactly where you're going because I picked up take out, filled my gas tank, and took 30 mins and was told they won't hold the spot for that long. I quoted that I would be there in 15 mins, but also didn't anticipate getting lost and stopping every block between stop signs, one ways, and red lights on a holiday weekend. My bad. There is a workstation in the lobby that guests can utilize. So many close by locations if you're willing to walk .5 miles +/-. The front desk staff were always courteous and welcoming upon us walking in and out. It was refreshing. And FYI there are two elevators for up and down. The one is significantly smaller than the other. For my large family and luggage it was tight quarters. But not a place where you feel you would ever get trapped in an elevator. And also it took me too long to realize they have a fitness center located on the second floor for 18+ years old. And they have some pretty impressive gym equipment. The room has a central air system in the ceiling, not a conventional wall unit which exhausts to the outside like you may stereotypically think of. Overall, I would come back. It felt homey and history. It was a decent location and...
Read moreWe stayed in 2 rooms during game 4 of the World Series. First off, the neighborhood is a disaster of sketchiness, homeless folks, drugged out folks and overall quite poverty-stricken HOWEVER this hotel is managing to keep all that out and is raising the bar for what to expect from other Bronx hotels. ||Check-in was smooth and easy and they gave us free NYY cupcakes which was a very nice touch. The beds and pillows were quite firm, which I'm a huge fan of. The rooms were overall very quiet from each other, however the hotel is down the street from a hospital and is on a busy street for police cars to go siren-blaring down. We got an unwelcome 4 am wakeup siren from some such police activity outside the hotel. And the hallways are unfortunately on the loud, echoey side too. Heard many folks returning from bars at 1-2 am in the hallways especially well but once they go in their rooms you can't hear neighboring rooms. So there's good quality here.||||The quality did NOT extend to the free breakfast unfortunately. The cereals were like 3rd rate, never heard of their brands and they tasted stale. They have no soy/almond/oat milk options (just half/half, whole or low fat, however their milk dispenser machine was quite low on supply and we only got a couple dribbles of milk). The coffee machine was a joke and seemed to be in dire need of replacement. Push the button to select your coffee type (black, espresso, latte, mocha, cappuccino, etc) about a dozen times and it finally works only to mess up and make something not right. I went through about 3 tries with 3 failed drinks (espresso wouldn't work, cappuccino would only give me frothed milk) before settling on black coffee which it spewed out a little bit of and then lots of hot water. The yogurt was low fat Yoplait. Overall, I wish I'd just gone across the street to Dunkin.||||The history of this hotel was everywhere, and was such a cool touch. You can clearly see you're not in some fake, megachain corporate hotel. You're in a historic building with cool history. Would have truly been something to see this Opera House in action back when the Bronx was a respectable neighborhood. They've done well overall and just need to do a little better with breakfast to have a truly...
Read moreThis was my second time staying at the Opera House Hotel, and unfortunately, the quality of service has decreased since I visited last year. Now, I will give due credit to the owner for addressing an issue involving absent insect screens from the windows of the hotel rooms that previously presented hazards. The reason why I decided to give this business two stars didn't have to do with the fact that me and my partner witnessed a cockroach in our hotel room (which in and of itself could've warranted the hotel getting 0 stars if I were harsh), but had everything to do with how customer service handled my concern. On the night I encountered a cockroach atop the dresser where the TV is located, I called reception and explained to them what I saw. The man was apologetic about the situation, and he offered us another room, but I declined, and checked out with my partner the same night. There's a service fee of $50 that visitors are required to pay before being granted access to their hotel room. My expectation was that the service fee would ensure that we didn't have to worry about the presence of roaches in our hotel room, but I thought, okay, maybe the management would be receptive to my concern, but they weren't. I spoke to an overnight receptionist named Chrystie twice, and a manager by the name of Janice once. When I explained the importance of customer service to the overnight receptionist, the action she took was to hangup on me mid-sentence, and I like to think of myself as courteous, and reasonable, as that was absolutely uncalled for. Talking to the manager there wasn't any more successful, as all she mentioned was that she would "investigate," but no further communication on her end was ever kept. She never asked for my name, number, or e-mail and also seemed disinterested in assisting me, almost as if she was under a preconceived impression that I was asking for a refund without any basis, when in fact it was to explain that I wanted her to address my concern as a customer with respect, regardless if there would be a refund. For how both employees handled this situation, I will never seek services at this...
