Wahi, oh Wahi! This cute little diner on Broadway in Washington Heights has stolen my heart. I can't even count how many times I've found myself here, especially since it was the very first spot I devoured a meal after moving to this awesome community. Trust me, it holds a special place in my hungry heart.
Now, let's talk about the food. It's not trying to be fancy or over-the-top; it's all about simple, delicious eats that hit the spot. And guess what? They're open 24 hours! That's right, when those late-night cravings strike, Wahi's got your back.
Look, it may not be the absolute best diner this side of heaven, but it checks off all the boxes when it comes to convenience. You can get your fix of breakfast goodies like bagels and omelettes, and let me tell you, those open face sandwiches for lunch are seriously underrated around here. And hey, even though the dinner options are so-so, you can always count on classic meat and potatoes being available.
Sure, sometimes you might find yourself sitting on a slightly rocky chair, but the homey vibe of the place more than makes up for it. And yeah, the price can be a bit steep for what you're getting, especially when you're forking over 20 bucks for a meal. But hey, who's complaining at midnight? When hunger strikes and nothing else is open, Wahi's got your back and your belly.
So, in my humble opinion, I'd give this place three stars. It's not breaking any records in terms of cost or mind-blowing quality, but it's a reliable go-to that satisfies those cravings and keeps you well-fed...
Read moreI've been here on a few occasions, but this last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. No pun intended.
Party of 4 at this seating so I had a host of witnesses. I ordered a grilled chicken club with no tomatoes and turkey bacon instead of pork bacon for self. I was certain to emphasize I'm allergic to one, and I do not eat the latter. A couple bites in, I asked the brand because it was unlike any turkey bacon taste I've had, and I felt a little nauseous. Our waiter advised he didn't know but assured it was turkey, then offered it was from restaurant depot. I asked for the confirmation from the kitchen, didn't get it. Then I get to a couple strips of pork bacon in my sandwich. It's visibly evident by the rippled fat on the edges. The sandwich also contained turkey bacon. The waiter again tries to convince me otherwise when the other adults at the table all agree on what we're looking at. I stopped eating, and asked for the check. At that point I'm demanding the kitchen to acknowledge, and finally the waiter recognizes this is serious. Fast forward, I'm affected and he was apologetic. My stance was that he shouldn't bear the brunt of the mishap, and that the kitchen should bear some responsibility for that. I appreciated the waiter trying to compensate with a dessert to go, however, food preferences are disclosed for a reason. I still left a tip because I don't believe it was malicious. I do hope in the future more...
Read moreConvenience (open 24/7) is the only good thing here. However, I experience very bland, depressing food here the few times I've sat in. Waiters were never very attentive so they would get the orders just a bit off. But the ladies took care of us were polite. I noted in my last attempt, my french toast was extra yolky yet had no actual flavor? Just burnt bread soaked in way too many egg yolk...and there was a potato stuck to it. We figured it was my friends potato which somehow got on to my plate...eh.
If I ever do come here again, i must expect very low, low to the bottom of anything from this place at this point. My other friend seems to really dig this place, i believe she will insist in fact that we eat here. Don't understand how people can enjoy their food...
I did like the previous food before the place was renovated. And am glad to see such a variety of locals and hospital employees sitting together. But i can tell the kitchen is way too strained to pull anything, even basic, together. Home potatoes are the only thing I have enjoyed here. BTW chicken was DRY in lemon...
