I have been a long time customer here because I love their fruit cakes, Boston creme pies, and curry puffs. Their cakes have made me take the long trek out to flushing. However, I am highly disappointed with my recent experience with them and their lack of hospitality in their customer service. I ordered a fruit cake for my birthday and told her I wanted an 8" chocolate fruit cake. The worker (her picture is included below) asked if I wanted fruit with it, which on my mistaken assumption, I assumed it was included in the price of the cake and she meant the fruit on the top, not fruit in the middle. Later she tells me the cake is $29, so I assumed that prices just went up because of covid but when I looked at the menu, I realized that fruit was extra $6, which she never mentioned. Am I supposed to know their cake prices off the top of my head like I work there? If the fruit in the middle is extra charge, she should have mentioned it up front. Transparency is important in any sort of business. She said that I said that it was okay and that the cake was already in making. I told her no, I didnt want fruit in the middle and I had misunderstood that it was an additional charge. She started speaking in mandarin to her coworkers which I completely understood. She was complaining and while I understand the frustration since the cake was already being made, she should have been upfront about the additional charge. She continued to talk in mandarin and shaking her head and muttering under her breathe. I continued to tell her look, its my fault I misunderstood but she should have been clear. Should customers be expected to know the prices of their stuff by heart?
All in all, I am sadden by the fact that the workers, not all of them, just that one in the picture, has such a poor attitude and is not willing to acknowledge her mistake when I admitted it was my fault I misunderstood but I am not entirely in the wrong. Talking behind peoples backs in another language and her nonverbal actions showed her lack of professional demeanor. If I did business and acted the way that she did in front of my patients, I would get chewed out immediately. Sadly, I dont think I will be returning here. While I love their cakes, their customer service has totally gone downhill. I hope you guys at the bakery improve the customer service and learn to teach your workers to be as transparent as possible to avoid future misunderstandings like this. And don't assume that people can't understand what you're saying behind...
Read moreWith all the recent shut-downs of long standing businesses, I realize that I have taken these places for granted for far too long without giving back as much as I could. I've been going to Yeh's Bakery since about 2016 or 2015.
I am ADDICTED to this bakery. My faves are the little custards, the very fluffy soft bread, some of the other breads also that I can't remember off the top of my head what they look like but they taste really good. I haven't tried anything else but I'm sure everything is great. Wonderful employees and such a great shop packed into a small space. 5 stars because I have absolutely no complaints about Yeh's Bakery.
Small-ish menu, I guess but considering the size of the bakery, the quantity of the items they make, and the quality of these items, I have no complaints and totally understand. I also have arrived sometimes looking for certain items and left sad that they are out of stock for the day-- no worries though because most of the time I can substitute it for an item that is just as tasty, even if not my absolute favorite. This stock issue isn't even an issue really, I would never want the shop to sacrifice quality for quantity. I trust mom&pop stores that sell-out for the day more, as it shows their food is high in quality enough to have great demand. Yeh's is one of those bakeries that has a long standing great reputation.
Always a pleasant experience and one I look forward to when visiting Flushing. High quality and affordable goods. The location is on Main Street also so it's close-by to a ton of other shops (a Pho restaurant and a Deli are ones close-by) and isn't out of your way if you're in the area.
If Covid-19 causes this gem of a bakery to shut down I'll cry my eyes out. Please support this...
Read moreYeh's Bakery has been around for quite some time. I think they started their business around 1987. My parents moved us into this neighborhood from Briarwood. The two brothers/partners from Taiwan were very friendly, great bosses and hard working. They did the engagement cake, misc. pastries for me and my late wife in 1988. Followed by a 3-tier wedding cake in 1989. Every cake is as delicious as the last cake. We continue to get cakes from Yeh's since there was no one better near or far. My church started having a monthly birthday cake to share among the English congregation around 1995, we didn't stop this tradition until 2000 when my English pastor changed and served another ministry. My most favorite youngest daughter got a 5-tier birthday cake from us in 2004 made by Yeh's. My friends joked about a much bigger wedding cake has to be in order to top this cake. As I visited Yeh's less often, I bumped into one of the brothers a few years back. That was when I learned that the other brother has passed away, and he was slowly transitioning out and allow someone within the business to take over. That was great news. I do visit on occasion still, the cream on these cakes are simply heavenly, devine, light enough that I don't gain lbs, just ounces. Do give them a try. The location is convenient, price is reasonable, and I get my cravings satisfied with other goodies, such as curry beef patties, and curry chicken...
