My review for Ztwo
Yesterday was my daughter’s baptism at ZTwo. I was so excited for this event to finally happen. When I booked this lunch two months ago I had wanted the side room that was covered just in case it rained and it would shelter us from the sun. I was told that only if it rained I could have it because they needed it for outdoor dining. Which I completely understood. We wound up booking it on the deck and I was told we would have big umbrellas. I was so happy and they gave us a really good price. When I confirmed the lunch last week with Ned, I asked again if it would be on the side if it rained. He told me he needed the side for dining and that he purchased a big beautiful tent so we would be sheltered and I would be very happy. Yesterday finally came and to my surprise and ultimate disappointment I got to the restaurant only to find out there was no tent and my family would be eating in the blaring sun. When I approached Ned about this he made it as if he never told me about the tent. His story then changed to the tent was broken and so were all his umbrellas. What made matters worse was that there was a baby shower on the side of the restaurant which was sheltered that I was told I could not have because they needed it for dining. As a business shouldn’t you have tried to rectify this? Or at least call me to tell me what was going on so I could be prepared. Not only did he offer me no solution to this problem he was very unprofessional and downright nasty when he spoke to me. He wound up finding three umbrellas and cutting holes in the tablecloth. My uncle and cousin had to go home to get tents they had so at least my 7 month old and pregnant sisters could be shielded from the sun. In addition to this, we brought our own cake and were told we would have ice cream- no ice cream was served. We were also told we would have the bar open outside for us and we told Ned this, he went inside and never came back out. Not once during the whole 4 hour lunch did he come out to see how the lunch was going or if we needed anything. He also never apologized for the lack of tents and umbrellas he promised that I would have.
Even though we had this upset the food was delicious. The two waiters and ONE bus boy we did have were very attentive. Unfortunately, there was not enough wait staff attending the party which meant dishes all over the table and empty water and soda pitchers. The owner, Sebastian, did rectify these issues when it came time for the bill. Despite this though it will be a very long time before I step foot in that place, if I...
Read moreZ2, as a diner that's relatively local for me, is a diner that I've had the pleasure of enjoying many experiences in.
Z2 is in many ways like Z1: The fries are very good, the mozzarella sticks are scrumptious, the rigatoni pasta with marinara sauce is splendid, the chicken tenders are good albeit a bit too greasy for my taste half of the time. They even have nice bread too. The onions and pickles I get are plentiful too. One cool thing about Z2 is that when you have an order delivered from Z2, they often give you a courtesy dessert. I may not be a dessert person but I appreciate them profoundly nonetheless. The most interesting observation I made about Z2 is that they have the best garlic bread I ever tasted.
It's worth noting that the popular consensus is that Z1 is better than Z2. Based on what I ate, this is largely true but I never had the garlic bread at Z1 to really know if I can say this for every order I had. Nonetheless, this shouldn't discount the fact that Z2 is a great diner. Being a slight step down from my favorite diner on the island still means it's a great diner in my book just that if given the option, I would take Z1.
Some miscellaneous things to consider about Z2 is that Z2 has better hours on average than most diners but that the disco may be on late at night. So it's a good last resort option but the disco may thwart any attempt at having a peaceful meal at that time. Of course, if you like it you could always come for that too. I remember oftentimes hearing the disco music at Z2 all the way from the Applebees around there.
Piece of trivia, I went to Z2 in a Mario costume once with my friends and once with my uncle and cousin. Here's a picture of me and my friends with our costumes on for the movie.
Ultimately, Z2 is a great diner and one I would recommend to anyone in the area and a great choice if it's after 11PM and most of the diners on Staten...
Read moreSIUH worker here and we planned our units holiday party. I confirmed a set number to attend on December 8th . Unfortunately members of staff had a death and the family and others were sick (Covid) unable to attend. I called the restaurant the day before to inform them of 2 people not being able to attend and when we go there for the party the manager KAL was like oh well YOU still have to pay . We ordered already offered the food, too bad. I explained this was something unexpected and unsafe for someone to attend. Again he was combative and said oh well. It’s a no return policy on attendance. I told him he never informed me of that and had I known I would have let the SIUH hospital staff know - no refunds Finally after having to pay for the two meals I asked that he wrap two diners for me for the people that aren’t attending and still paid and even with that request he gave me a hard time .
The customer service with manager and owner was extremely unpleasant. They were rude and augmentative. To make things worse when the party was over I tipped out the server and the bartender , went to pay the owner and he once again argued with me about the amount , and told me I had to pay him the tip. I informed him I already tipped out the workers and he said NO that’s not how It works . I pay them what they deserve out of the tip. So he then made me Go with him and approach the staff to collect the tip back and pay It to him. This was extremely embarrassing and in my opinion unprofessional. I would never want to work for such a controlling person and I will never eat there again or recommend anyone else...
