Do not get their fish and grits. Honestly, it's partially my fault. I didn't read the menu thoroughly and expected the fish to be whitings. Instead, it was tilapia. That being said, their tilapia looked and tasted like they went to shoprite and bought it in a box. You know, "Gorton's Crispy Battered Fish Fillets." I'm not even exaggerating because I'm dissatisfied, that is legit what it looked and tasted exactly like. Cheap. That being said, it didn't taste too bad. The grits needed a little salt, but were actually decent. The tilapia were hardly passable, but got the job done.
My main complaint is the price. This dish, at most, should have costed $10.99. I'd even push for 11.99 or 12.99 if it had whitings and scrambled eggs. My total came to $17 dollars...$17 for $2-$3 worth of grits and what was essentially boxed tilapia with a beer-taste-adjacent batter. Why this dinner is overcharging for basic grub is beyond me, but it's highway robbery and it needs to stop. The service was not THAT great.
I asked for a cup of water without any ice. When I got it, there we white pieces of something floating inside. And not those tiny little things that someone would tell you are just water particles. Actual, solid white, visible pieces of white...whatever? Micro plastics, maybe? Disgusting. Who knows if they even clean the soda machine it comes from. Water bubbling at the top of the cup. None of this is normal! I respectfully said I didn't want the water, and the server offered me a bottle of water. Why? So you can charge another $3? No thank you. I was asked FOUR MORE TIMES after that if I wanted a beverage. Leave me alone and let me eat in peace. Stop trying to add to my bill with your exorbitant prices! Absolutely ridiculous.

Read moreAs a former EXPERIENCED waitress, I understand customer service and how a table should be attended. The waitress that came to us didn’t even say hi or introduce herself, she just asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for water and lemon and had to remind her about the lemon. My sons food came out fast, I ordered a soup and it was warm/cold, waitress kindly reheated it for me. The food was tasty, besides the Cuban panini with pesto, pesto tasted expired but they kindly gave us our refund. WHEN A TABLE ORDERS FINGER FOOD, EXTRA NAPKINS should ALWAYS be given and we only had 2 napkins. We were waiting for the waitress to come and check on us so we can ask for her the check but we waited for quite some time until we asked another waitress for our check and she told us the waitress left. We were so confused!!! I have never been out to eat where A WAITRESS DISAPPEARED WITH NO FORM OF COMMUNICATION!!! We went to the front to pay for our bill and asked the guy in the front idk if he was the owner or manager….we asked where the waitress went because we were sitting waiting….HE WAS RUDE AND HAD A NASTY DISTASTEFUL ATTITUDE!!!! He asked what the problem was and said they didn’t want to “rush” us and that he was checking on us and we were fine, he said that’s how they do things. Meanwhile we were sitting there looking around for the waiter for our check. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEYRE LUCKY I EVEN LEFT $5 tip because I wasn’t going to...
Read moreGreat breakfast! This place is super clean. Spotless!! I mean it's gleaming. Waitress was super nice and cute too!! I ordered the pancake breakfast special with soft bacon and eggs scrambled hard. I had coffee and a glass of water. The meal came with a small--very small☺--OJ. The coffee was very fresh and hot. Being a sugar addict, I always appreciate dispensers over packets that get strewn over the table and makes for a very sticky dining experience. Presentation of the plates was very appetizing. Pancakes were golden brown. Light and round. Bacon was cooked soft just the way I like it. And the eggs were scrambled hard. I thought I was going to need a doggie bag but I was just too hungry. I cleaned all of my plates. This place rivals Tops and I say this very prudently. Tops menu is humongous but this streamlined menu was quite sufficient for breakfast. This will be my new go to breakfast spot when I am looking for a good meal in Newark. I love it's proximity to Newark Penn Station and Newark Broad Street Station. Clean, great service, agreeable prices, amazing food. The Deluxe Diner is an winner in...
