Overall a very good (1st) experience, and will definitely be back. Thought that some of the plate choices for the apps were odd. Very awkward, heavy, concave dishes. No serving utensils, so you have to kind of pick them up to scrape the food onto your plate, and then the sauces drop over the edge of the strange dishes onto the table and it makes a mess - and it's kind of unavoidable. Table wasn't wiped down in between courses, so just sat there with remnants of the apps on the table. Just seems an unnecessary & impractical choice to look more fancy. Main course, while delicious, was very salty - been chugging water for 2 hours after. My dish was saltimbocca, and it seems the inherent saltiness of the prosciutto was overlooked and the dish was aggressively salted on top of that. Some people may disagree with that, but to me it was overkill. Staff was very attentive and polite, but only two guys running front of house, doing everything from greeting and seating, to serving, bussing, and also making the mocktails - they seemed understaffed and needed an extra pair of hands to speed up everything. Mocktails, while also absolutely delicious, seemed a bit out of place with rich Italian food. However, they are getting their liquor license soon, so hard to hold that against them. A bit pricey, but that's eating out in 2023 in general.
Gorgeous modern & minimalist decor, small & intimate setting, great for a date night. Will definitely go back, and...
Read moreA unique experience in the ironbound. For a neighborhood full of diverse food from South America and Spain and Portugal, this restaurant was a welcome Italian addition. This is not your red sauce, huge portions joint - for that you gotta go elsewhere (google red sauce Italian or if you're lazy, go to olive garden for the ridiculous portions). The ambiance is impeccable, minimalist decor with sleek leather booths and tables. The bar serves strong drinks and is fully stocked. Here, you can a great bottle of wine (TIP: go ahead and get the Montepulciano wine and impress your date). Get some tender octopus, the bresaola, and some calamari. You can't go wrong with experimentation here - everything is top notch quality. The spicy vodka Cavatelli gives Carbone a run for its money. The emphasis here is quality over quantity - which tells you everything you need to know when ordering here. Just as their related Cafe (Sihana) revolutionized the café scene in the Ironbound, Five Corners Ristorante will surely revolutionize the restaurant scene in the Ironbound. If I were other restaurants in the Ironbound and elsewhere, I would take notice of the quality, service and ambiance of this...
Read moreMy husband and I had a short layover in Newark and with a just a quick drive from the airport, we arrived at this hidden gem. Totally worth the visit. With so many great options on their menu, you will feast in any direction you decide to go.
Our server, Giovanny, was not only courteous but well versed on the menu. He genuinely understood my interest to enjoy a meal with textural elements and recommended the Oyster mushroom dish. I am so happy I decided to go with this recommendation. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce was creamy and the mushrooms hearty. The breadcrumbs and cheese were the final touch to an exquisite meal.
Other items to note about Five Corners is that the decor is light and airy, the tables are spacious and the owners clearly care both about the dining experience as well as who enjoys it. I was happy to see the restaurant offers an accessible ramp and accessible restroom.
Would absolutely come back.
This is a must visit place the next time you are in Newark.
