We were in Newark on a Sunday afternoon and decided to eat out before heading home. After searching Google for the closest highly-rated Indian restaurant, we found Himalayan—a familiar name in the Bay Area and the top-rated option at the time.
Excited, we went in with high hopes, but the place was small and didn’t seem particularly clean. The owner’s son took our order, and while waiting for the food, he asked why we chose their restaurant. When we mentioned the Google ratings, he gave us a knowing smile—the kind that makes you realize his plan worked :)
When the food arrived, it was mediocre at best—nowhere near the 4.5-star rating it supposedly deserved. More like a 3-star experience. I fear the ratings on google are manipulated and not trust...

We wanted to go to a place to dine in and enjoy our lunch and decided to choose this one due to ratings. The owner's son was behind the counter and he was basically disappointed that we wanted to sit down. He said "we are more of a take out place". He got us silverware and plates and said "there you go" when he placed them on the table. Then he brought the food and just left it on the tray in the middle of the table. Terrible service I would say, especially that it was a birthday lunch. The rice side dish is absolutely overpriced- $7 for a bowl of brown rice?! Never seen it before... Overall not a...

You will see red everywhere in your food And if you like small skimpy shrimp, about the size of a fingernail in pretty much the same red, red and red tomatoey curry, then this is the place to go to. It's one of those go once and done type of places. Sadly of 200+ Indian restaurants in Fremont/Union City/Newark area, not one appears to stand out.
