Absolutely fantastic place to watch a soccer match. I've been coming here regularly for over a year and I keep coming back for multiple reasons. Let's break it down.
It's close to me. Sure there's a dozen sports bars in the area but this one is in an area that's not crowded and always has plenty of parking. And you know what? This might not be close to you, but you're not the one currently writing a 5-star review let me focus on me for a sec.
It's open early. I mean early! It opens at 6am! Who needs a beer at 6am on Saturday, you think? I do when I'm watching Premier League matches! Champions League matches! And World Cup matches! You better believe I'm waking up early and coming in for the 6am, 7am, 8am matches!
There's a million televisions and you can always have you own! This is great! The bar is only about 25 feet wide (enough for the bar and a few tables), but it's like 150 feet long! The entire length of the bar is completely full of monitors and they're turn any one of them to the channel you want. If there's a match on television, they'll show it for you! Oh, and they have a cool little portable speaker box that they'll bring to your table or section of the bar if you want to listen to the sound from your monitor. Fantastic!
Good breakfast options. Again, maybe you do your bar visits in the evening. Maybe you don't like to eat in the morning. You know what? I love it! I love having some eggs and potatoes or a breakfast omelet or whatever I want when I'm watching Liverpool beat Manchester City at 7am (eat your heart out City fans). Good food options with good portions and good flavors and not overpriced! Food - check!
Customer service! These staff are fantastic!! No one seems to hate working here and all enjoy the customers they're serving. Seriously! If you have any request, from maybe a different food request (no onions please) to seeing if they can help you track down which channel an obscure sports event is on, they're completely happy to take the time to get things right and make you happy. They're good people just working hard and helping you enjoy your time.
So there you go. Nothing mind-blowing. They don't have magical ferries that grant wishes or something. You might not think any of these things are a big deal, but when it's got everything, it's fantastic! It's not just a place that opens early, making it a great to watch soccer matches. It's a place that opens early AND has good breakfast options AND has lots of televisions AND has great customer service! Seriously, there's not a negative tic I can give it!!
I suppose the only down side was that other people figured out how good this place was for soccer and I experienced a big early morning crowd for the first time during the Croatia v France World Cup Final. But that's alright because these guys were completely prepared it... that and I showed up an hour early to get good seats since I suspected it'd get crowded. But now that the Premier League season has started again and the World Cup is over, I'll enjoy my early morning Saturday morning matches in peace again with my eggs and coffee (and beer). If you enjoy a match, come watch Liverpool with me and we can argue over whether Salah deserves to be on EA's short list for player of the...
Read moreI wish I could give a place 3.5 stars. Apparently, that's not possible. My reviews are always a little bit tougher than others, and because I averaged the experiences from both my visits, it ended up being a three stars (I rounded down).
Let me start off by saying that if you want to eat at a bar, I've never been to a place that has such a wide selection at a low price. The food here is incredible, and somehow it seems to not have been affected by inflation. If you manage to find something on special, the prices are even better.
With that said, there are some detractors to the overall experience that non -bar junkies may not notice. First off, all the TVs that are mounted above the bar are too high for your average person who's sitting at the bar. After watching a couple of World Cup games at this location, I walked out with a bit of a sore neck. For people sitting at tables, it's perfect, but I rarely ever sit at tables at a bar.
This place also has a menu that's viewable via QR code. I'm not totally against digital menus, but the actual online experience isn't set up that well. You have to select a menu section before the search bar appears at the top, and it only searches for items within that section. When you're new to a place, and you're not sure we're certain items are going to be located, this is a big issue. While trying to track down where the wings were located, as I went from section to section using the search bar to no avail. Opt for the printed menu if possible.
Outside of those detractors, the overall experience was pretty good. The atmosphere is adorned with green trim, which is the only way you would know. The bar has a slightly irish theme. If you're expecting a pub, you're not going to find it here, as this place is exceptionally large and has the feel of a sports bar. Considering it says sports bar, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
There's also plenty of outside seating, but unfortunately it was too cold to sit down and enjoy it. The staff is really nice, and the owner hangs around the bar and chit chats with you between tasks. I was really close to giving this place four stars, knowing that I rarely ever give out five, but the bar was significantly understaffed during a World Cup special event leading me to wait 2 hours to get the food that I ordered. By the time my food came out the game was practically over, which meant the bar missed out on a chance for me ordering two meals,...
Read moreI really wanted to like O'Sullivans Bar, but like another reviewer stated, they are a bar pretending to be an Irish pub. I don't get how you can have Guinness promos all over, but your staff , not one, knew how to pour a proper Pint of Guinness. I mean I literally asked them, and they didn't know which a pint size was! They don't know how to perform a 2 part pour for the most basic of all Irish drinks. I was given a standard glass of guinness with no head/dome. I tried the food since the drinks failed but alas the food was just sub par bar food. The service wasn't bad just I wish the management team actually put the money into having Guinness reps come out to the bar and teach the staff how to clean the lines, pour the drink properly and so forth like other Irish pubs do here in Cali and in Ireland. If they knew how to do these things, it would make it more like a true Irish pub.
EDIT for James, thanks for responding. I hope you don't think I despise your bar because I don't. I will come back by early September based on your response and check you out again. I'm just a big Guinness fan and having somewhere local that pouts a proper Pint is hard to find. I definitely will go back with an open mind and empty belly!
2nd edit on Sept 28 2023. Okay, you guys came through with flying colors! First, the team told me the Guinness reps came thru and fixed the draft pour. Your team pours Guinness correct and in the proper glasses! I do wish they were imperial pint size (20 oz) but hey I'll drink a proper 16 oz pour anytime! The Tachos and poppers were excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful. Thank you James for...
