I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at Teixeira's Bakery on 186 Ferry St, Newark, NJ, despite hearing glowing reviews about their egg tarts. My visit quickly turned into a frustrating ordeal.
When I arrived, I was met with cold, stale egg tarts from an old batch. Hoping for better, I asked the cashier when fresh ones would be available. Her response? They wouldnât be baking a new batch until the old, cold ones were sold. Against my better judgment, I purchased one and decided to wait for a fresh batch. Nearly two hours later, the new batch was finally ready, and I excitedly asked for a fresh egg tart. But to my shock, the cashier blatantly ignored my request and reheated one of the old, cold ones instead.
When I took a bite, the tart was doughy, soggy, and lacked any of the crispness I had been waiting for. Frustrated, I approached the cashier again and explained that I had waited two hours for a fresh one, only to receive a reheated tart. Her response was unbelievably dismissiveâshe told me, âItâs all the same,â and couldnât have cared less about my complaint.
The attitude and service at Teixeira's Bakery were beyond terrible. The staff showed zero regard for quality or customer satisfaction, and the entire experience was a waste of time and money. This place doesnât deserve its reputation, and I strongly advise avoiding it. I certainly wonât...
Read moreI recently visited Teixeira's Bakery at 186 Ferry St, Newark, NJ, after hearing great things about their egg tarts from a friend. Unfortunately, my experience didnât live up to the hype.
When I arrived, I noticed the egg tarts on display were cold, likely from a previous batch. I asked the cashier when the next fresh batch would be ready, and she told me they wouldnât bake more until the old batch sold out. Despite this, I bought one and decided to wait for the fresh ones. After almost two hours, I finally saw the new batch come out of the oven and eagerly approached the counter. I specifically asked for a fresh egg tart, but instead, the cashier reheated one from the old batch and handed it to me.
When I bit into it, it was doughy and lacked the crisp texture I was hoping for. I went back to explain that I had waited for a fresh one, but the cashier dismissed me, saying, âItâs all the same,â with a total lack of care for my concern.
The service and attitude at Teixeira's Bakery left a lot to be desired. For a place thatâs supposed to be known for its egg tarts, they seem to prioritize convenience over quality and customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, I wonât be returning...

Great bakery in the Ironbound, delicious Portuguese style coffee and sweets. Been here several times for breakfast and there's always a line.
Pay in cash or card. Order at the front of the line and then pay while you wait to get your order. Seating has signs of limit 30min while eating/drinking, which I agree with since otherwise it would be hard to get a table!
Their galĂŁo (portugueses latte) is delicious and only $2.15. it's smaller than an American coffee, but big enough for a breakfast (see photos attached ). Pingado or cortado ($1.75) is smaller and more dense, great with some sugar.
Their pastel de nata is famous in the Ironbound and for $1.65 it's worth getting one or two! You can ask them to warm it up a bit, unless you're lucky enough to arrive when a new batch gets baked.
We also tried the chocolate croissant ($2.99) which was more of a napolitana de chocolate, but very delicious and rich in amount of chocolate.
The palmieres ($2.60) was good in texture, with nice flakes, but less sweet than I'm used to, which could be a good thing for some people.
During Xmas they have the typical Xmas...
