Best Bagel Newburyport Cafe — Restaurant in Newburyport

While up in Newburyport running errands at Port Plaza, decided to walk to Dunks to get a coffee. When I turned the corner, I had to do a double-take because what was once a Dunks was now Best Bagel Cafe. Not knowing anything about this place, I walked in hoping to get a simple iced coffee, but left with a fantastic experience that will definitely bring us back.

We had a chocolate chip bagel which not only cured the hunger of a Saturday morning, but also made me see that there are, in fact, places in the area that serve up top tier bagels. As other reviews note, the bagels are massive, very fresh and flavorful, and the perfect balance of crispy on the outside and delectably soft on the inside. A bagel that absolutely has me looking forward to coming back to Newburyport to try some of their other flavors!

Next up was the iced coffee, and we chose the 'Girl Scout Cookie' Iced Coffee, which was AMAZING! Thin Mint in iced coffee form, and the balance of chocolate to mint was spot on, and while some eateries try and fail to replicate mint chocolate anything, this was completely on point.

We also did get a second iced coffee without any flavoring and it was decent. I am usually a coffee snob, and given the moment, I was satisfied with it, but look forward to cooler days when I can get a better idea with a hot coffee.

The staff were awesome. Super fast service, very friendly, and gave me the time I needed to really get familiar with their menu.

Prices were also VERY reasonable, as a bagel (no cream cheese) and two medium iced coffees were $11. The quality of the food and drink completely makes spending perhaps a couple more dollars than what you might spend at Dunks completely justified.

This new shop looked promising from the menu and from the outside. However, the service is absolutely terrible and the staff doesn’t know what they are doing. They are not knowledgeable enough about the menu to inform their customers. Their prices are high for up-charges. Almost $5 for gluten-free and they do not tell you, they just say “we have gluten free, the wraps are gluten free!” Then you agree and find it on the bill. A wrap starting at $14 is pretty high in the first place, then $21 total for gluten free and tax? Unprofessional leadership on behalf of the sales manager and boss. Their staff walked away and asked them THREE times to explain the charge. Neither of them came to the window after 15 minutes to explain. The girls came back after speaking to them and with three different answers saying “we haven’t updated our sign pricing to reflect increases yet, sorry!” That’s not the customer’s problem? Then she says, “yeah, I don’t know why the prices are different, our system has the right price”, then the third time, “so gluten free is $5 more because it’s “specially made”.” This is ridiculous and untrue. Why did it take 15 minutes to form a solid answer, three different times and not once did the boss come over and speak. I asked why nobody could tell me anything and was told that some of the staff is new, but the boss was there and did not speak. Their management displayed terrible customer service skills and kept a customer waiting for 15 minutes at the drive-thru just to try and up charge them $5 for gluten free. Unorganized, rude and...

This place is UNREAL without a doubt the best bagels I’ve ever had. There’s so many flavors to choose from! My personal favorites are their everything, onion, and French toast with Nutella! It’s their second location, and they’ve absolutely nailed it. The bagels are on another level—huge, fresh, and baked to perfection. I’ve had a lot of bagels in my life, but these are truly the best. The cream cheese is so creamy and flavorful the perfect match for these incredible bagels. There’s so many different flavors : scallion, plain, strawberry, jalapeño, garlic and herb, and so many more! Then there’s the coffee—smooth, rich, and full of fun flavor options that make it hard to pick just one. It’s the kind of place where you can taste the care and quality in every bite and sip. The shop itself is stunning. The pink walls give it so much charm and warmth, making it a space you just want to spend time in. It’s cozy and inviting, and you can feel the thought and love that went into every detail. But what really makes this place stand out is how it feels to walk in. The staff is so friendly and welcoming—it’s clear they care about creating a great experience for everyone who comes through the door.
