Bar 12 — Restaurant in Newport

I was at this place less than 30 minutes ago with my partner, and never — ever — have we felt so unwelcome at a place as we did today because of the bartender (an adult woman with white hair, blue glasses with white dots).

We arrived, greeted her, and received no greeting back. She never approached our table — instead, from behind the bar, she just said “here’s the menu.” She never brought us plates, napkins, nothing. To place our order, my boyfriend had to go to the bar himself. She brought our drinks without a word and never asked if we needed anything else — and we actually wanted to order food.

The place wasn’t busy at all — there was a table of four girls, another table with one woman, and us. About 10 minutes later, another couple arrived — and she treated them completely differently. She greeted them warmly, went to their table a couple of times, brought them plates, napkins — everything. She also went to the other tables, but never to ours.

Even when it was time to pay, we had to get up, go to the bar, and ask for the check. It was clear we were not to her liking. I truly hope she’s not the owner, because this is not how you treat people.

I felt so uncomfortable that at one point I asked my boyfriend (he’s American and I’m Latina), “Do you think this is because of me? Do you think she’s one of those people who don’t like latinos?” He was also uncomfortable. There was absolutely no reason for her behavior. We were well dressed, smelled good — there was no excuse.

Everything I’m saying can be verified by the owners or manager, as there was a big camera right in front of us.

I’m leaving this review because I would never want anyone else to feel the way we felt...

My fiancé and I stopped here on a Friday night for the first time. We had tried a handful of other bars in Newport that were all packed but when we walked into Bar 12 it was almost empty. I ordered the Secret Garden cocktail and was so impressed with the presentation! It tasted as good as it looked too! I stopped by again this past Friday with four of my friends and tried the lemon meringue drink this time. It was amazing- super sweet and tasted just like a lemon bar! The prices are really reasonable for the quality of the cocktails and the location. The atmosphere is perfect for a date night or small groups, the bathroom was super clean, and overall I’m just really shocked it wasn’t more crowded both...

My husband and I stopped in Bar 12 to enjoy pre dinner drinks during our recent stay in Newport. Bar 12 is a small and intimate setting. It definitely is best for small groups due to limited seating. The menu is great and offers unique cocktails, in addition to beer and wine, for guests with differing palettes. We had 4 different cocktails and enjoyed all of them equally. Although we didn't have any food, the menu looked appetizing. Darwin was a gracious bartender despite the busy crowd. We will definitely return during our next trip!...
