Would give 0 stars if i could. Came to visit Rhode Island and was out bar hopping at Newport and came from The Fastnet Pub (way better, come here. Good vibes and a nice place with pool and darts.). The moment i came in an employee (the bouncer i presume) quickly approached me and asked for my ID. He took a quick glance and almost rejected my NYS ID (for some reason idk why) but took a double glance and accepted it. I went to the bar and noticed him eyeing me the whole time. I was about to ask for the drink menu but i was kind of thirsty so i asked for some water (although i already had some sort of premonition that he already had some assumptions about me with his staring). As the bartender started filling my cup he immediately and aggressively approached me talking about "oh were not doing that here, we sell alcohol not water blah blah blah) and nearly grabbed me trying to force me out. I had said i was going to buy a drink but he didn't seem to care and wanted me out of the establishment for some reason. Either way it was a terrible experience ➖♾️/♾️.

UPDATE (response to reply): Yes, it is quite an embarrassing attempt to save face. And trust me, I have no desire or interest in returning to a place that intends on slandering legit experiences. If you truly looked at the camera footage you would have seen that your own claim is false. I am not sure if you are mistaken or lying.

Regardless, as stated, that was not the reason I was told to leave. It came after the bartender began filling my cup with water (who clearly understood me). Also, my original review came immediately after the incident; something a person who "can't speak or stand" would be incapable to do. Given that, you still overlooked the information and decided to refer to a completely different, or false, situation. Have some dignity in your...

Second time here. Came initially due to a post I saw on a bloody mary group I am part of on Facebook. Not often do you see local posts so I went right now. Ordered a bloody mary and it was plain and nothing like the post I saw. Now this was a few years ago. Back in Newport again, I google this place and a picture of the bloody mary I saw on FB pops up, The Sebastian Bloody! I tell the waitress I want one loaded and she starts telling me all the stuff they don't have such as SHRIMP! (On a Friday night, the day before a seafood festival in Newport) She also told me the shrimp went bad, ew. Anyway I showed her the picture with the lobster claw and said that's fine as long as it has the lobster claw. She told me they have never had this? Anyway whatever. I'll drink water. My mom orders a Riesling, nope don't have any! I'm not a wine drinker but I'd imagine this should be a popular one to have. Mom gets some other wine, wife got a sangria. She said the Sangria wasn't very good.

Food was decent. I got the ribs, came with corn and potato salad (I thought it was mashed potatoes so was a suprize on the first bite). One of my corn was nice and hot, the other was cold. Ribs weren't bad, my son had some and loved it.

Overall I doubt I'll be back with the other great options...

My friend and I are 24 years old and went on a Thursday night(it was dead) to sit at the bar and get one round of drinks. The old male bartender came up to us and was very not friendly and then took our order and asked for our IDs which we handed over. He took them behind the bar which we assumed was to check or scan them - after waiting for 5 minutes a nice women bartender came over and handed them back to us and let us know the old guy thought our IDs are fake but that she will give them back to us implying she is doing us a favor. Once we again emphasized they were definitely not fake and they can scan them to check and they let us know they don’t have the ability to do that and we just could not drink there that night. Frustrated not only at the initial rude interaction but also that we were called out in front of the few people near us at the bar when we were being respectful and are well into the legal drinking age and have been for many years. Also very embarrassing for the old guy bartender that didn’t have the confidence to come back and let us know himself. We will absolutely not be returning here and if you are fresh faced 20 something would...

Unacceptable Discrimination – We Were Ignored Entirely I had a disturbing experience at Tavern on Broadway in Newport, RI, that I feel compelled to share. I visited with three Black women — we were the only Black patrons in the bar at the time. We were seated by a hostess, but from the moment we sat down, we were completely ignored. Other guests (who were not people of color) came in after us and were served promptly, while no one came to our table — not even to take a drink order. We approached the hostess desk multiple times and were told each time that someone would be right with us. That never happened. Staff walked by us, looked at us, and continued serving others. The most disturbing part: some staff members laughed and looked directly at us after one of our follow-ups, as if they had no intention of serving us at all. It was humiliating and clearly intentional. No one should ever experience that kind of treatment, especially in 2025. I can’t speak to others’ experiences here, but for us, the message was loud and clear: we were not welcome.
