After much research of Italian spots-my wife's fave-in Newport I chose this one to enjoy a celebratory dinner commemorating my bride's last stop on the quest to visit all 50 states. Newport is a cool little town by the way. Lucia is located in a stylish brick building in an area called the Brick Market Place. it is a section of local small businesses we found very quaint. Lucia may look small but it has two separated dining areas. quickly seated and watered, we started to peruse the menu of Northern Italian dishes. our friendly waiter informed us of the specials-wish i had noted them-as we pondered our options. since we were celebrating the wife chose to bring on the bubbles-a blood orange bellini which she enjoyed very much. upon our servers return it was our usual pick of a caprese salad to begin. my wife then inquired if an adjustment could be made to the style of pasta served with the meat ragu sauce, her customary go to choice. fortunately she was informed that it was possible to switch pasta styles in any of the entrees. very nice. so it was tagliatelle with the meat ragu for her and i chose the farfalle alla venezia-shrimp and scallops in a white wine/garlic/cream sauce. the salad was a solid choice. great tomatoes, creamy fresh mozzarella, and a well portioned sprinkling of fresh basil. all nicely dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. a light sprinkle of salt and the salad was complete. very good. the bread basket served along side was pretty pedestrian IMO. the meat ragu was good if not earthshattering. it was enjoyed until the wife was too full to finish. my dish was very, very good. as expected in this area, the seafood tasted quite fresh and the cream sauce had really the perfect amount of garlic as to not overpower the rest of the dish. nary a bite was left. although dessert sounded good it just wasn't too be after this meal. a wonderful way to celebrate the big milestone of our visit to...
Read moreWe are here as vacationers and we’re really excited to have some authentic Italian food. We made reservation at 7:30 And arrived promptly and seated promptly. After a couple minutes, they asked us if we wanted water and we received water. At 8 PM I had to wave the waiter over who had delivered food to three tables that were a foot away from us. And I had to tell him that we’ve been here since 730. He did apologize and say he would give us some dessert. We know exactly what we wanted because we had been waiting there for A half hour. There was a special that was the sole Picatta And I asked for that for two of us. I asked for spinach on the side instead, and he said instead of the beans which I thought was strange because the side was broccoli, but I didn’t think to say anything. When our food arrived, which was promptly I will say, I took the first bite and realize it was wrong and he gave me the sole On the menu. I verified with everyone at the table that I did say Picatta Right and they said yes for sure. When I told him About the mistake I knew he already felt bad, So I said this is not what we ordered, Don’t get me wrong. It is good but it’s not what we ordered. We wanted the special.. And he said oh sorry People come regularly for this on the menu. My son was really upset Because he really only wanted to capers, and the other soul wasn’t orange sauce. We both only ate the fish because the sides were not good. My son was still hungry, so I asked if we could have just noodles with butter and some capers on top. At this point, I would have expected him not to charge me for noodles, butter and caper, but alas, they did 1595 for a small plate of noodles and butter. He brought over a dessert of his choice, which was great And very tasty But honestly, I would have like to have chosen what dessert he gave us at that point. This was our only meal in Rhode Island and it was so...
Read moreIf I could give a zero star I absolutely would. I will never return to Lucia's restaurant and the best part is, our party never got to even sit down. We went to Lucia’s because we heard it was a great restaurant, with great food. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Apparently (according to the owner) an 8 o'clock reservation means you do NOT sit at 8. Lucia ostracizes people based on how they look and sat an older couple at a table for four, who's reservation was at 8:15. The couple had checked in around 7:50PM, our party checked in around 7:55PM. Because our reservation happened to look younger than 50 years old, we were still stuck waiting. The owner assumed we were college kids, and her assumption will cost her future business. Much to our dismay, we were still waiting for a table at 8:30, which was when Lucia had stepped outside. To our surprise, Lucia was not engaging with us to apologize or attempt to rectify the situation, but rather to argue with us about why we were not seated in accordance with our reservation. She had mentioned that because they checked in a few minutes before us the table was theirs, and that if we had called ahead, there would have been no issues. I do not remember the last time you needed to call ahead for a reservation that was already booked. It was utterly embarrassing to have an owner of a restaurant come outside, argue with potential customers, and not even apologize to us. The ironic thing is, she lost not only a large dinner bill, but lost all future business with us, and anyone else we know heading down to Newport. Lucia's could have been a place to take clients too, and a go-to spot when we visited. It is just an embarrassment to treat people like this. Anyone who supports a business like this one, should be ashamed they...
