Do not go here! If I could give it 0 stars, I would have. I showed up with a party of 9 in total on a Friday night about 7:00 pm. We were seated within 10 minutes, but it took an additional 30 minutes after ordering our drinks to actually get them. One member of our party ordered a double crown and coke. When the waitress brought him his drink, it was in a shot glass. He asked if that was a double and the waitress very rudely told him that he didn't order a double. When he said he did, she again argued with him. After everyone in my party ordered food, it was an additional hour wait until we actually got our food. The food was okay but nowhere near the price tag. I personally got the spicy clam chowder and have never had a blander clam chowder. Another member of my party also got the clam chowder but sent it back and told the waitress the reason is because it tasted bad. Also, I asked for a refill on my coffee and was told that it would be right out. After waiting 20 minutes for my refill, I again asked and was told they were brewing another pot. 20 minutes after that I finally got another cup of coffee. When the waitress brought the check, she brought 1 check and when we asked to split the check between the people in the party, she said that they don't split checks. We asked to talk to the manager and this is when we found out that our waitress was actually the manager. I waited 2 days to write this review to hopefully calm down and analyze whether or not I had as bad of an experience as I thought I had. I did. I would never...

I have frequented this establishment multiple times and have always had positive experiences. The wait staff is beyond friendly and accommodating, especially with large groups. Recently we planned a work function at the Gas Lamp Grille and they could not have been any more helpful. We reserved 3 large tables in the main dining room. When we arrived they were all set up with water for the table, and the waitress was extremely organized. We had orders for rounds of drinks, appetizers, some people got soup or salad, others just entrees. Food came out in a logical order, timely and hot. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The clam chowder and the steak tips were among the favorites at my table.

We were able to mingle and move around our area of the dining room with ease. Our waitress always managed to find us as we moved around during cocktails and made sure we were satisfied every step of the way. She was able to merge bar tabs and separate all the checks after our food came out. (doing it before would have caused the food to come out of the kitchen at all different times) and with over 20 people, every single check was correct! (be aware, they don't always separate checks for large parties but they do try to be accommodating. We were prepared to put it all on one tab and deal with it via venmo ourselves if they were too busy to do it)

My kids ask to go there regularly as well, my daughter claims their mac and cheese is the best on the entire planet. The Clam Chowder, Chili and flatbreads are also not to be missed. We will definitely...

We had lunch with our granddaughter today at Gas Lamp Grill. As with every place in Newport this week, there was a wait to get a table. The hostess took my phone number and said the wait would be 20-30 minutes. After 30 minutes, we went back and I told the hostess that we had been waiting. She said she was "just about to call me". I'm not so sure. After a few minutes we were seated in the bar area. Our server was also the bar tender. The bar was filled with patrons so for her to be serving tables was more than an unreasonable expectation. She did take our orders and she brought our drinks, but then another young man delivered our food. The best things about our lunch were the orange cinnamon infused bourbon manhattan and the fried pickles. The chicken wings were just ok. My wife ordered the fish sandwich and it was truly inedible. It was mostly batter that was so crunchy you could barely bite into it. She ordered a side salad and they brought chowder instead. They did eventually bring the salad. I ordered the turkey burger which was ok, and a side of chili which was dark and thick, unlike any chili I have ever had. My granddaughter asked for a second glass of lemonade and by the. time the server brought it we were about ready to leave. I asked for the check, but the bartender/server was obviously overwhelmed so I went to the bar to get the check and to pay the bill. We have been coming to Newport for many years but had never eaten at the GLG. Needless to say, we will never enter the...

We chose the restaurant for the General Tso Calamari, a truly unique dish we were thrilled to have the chance experience. After trying nearly a dozen restaurants in Newport this week, the service we received was easily the worst of our trip. We arrived and were quickly seated, and quickly forgotten. Our server, who was also the restaurant bartender in spite of 4 other servers available, did not check on our table until after the meal. Which was missing the General Tso Calamari appetizer we ordered. Had our server practiced the “two-bite” rule; taught, practiced, and executed by nearly every professional restaurant; he would have had an opportunity to make it right before we finished our entrees. In his defense, the bartender should not be responsible for a table in the dining area on a busy Friday night. That’s awful management and shows a lack of organization and leadership. He did take the General Tso off of our bill, but ultimately the experience was not what we had hoped or should have expected. To cap off our experience after telling us he would take the appetizer off of our bill it was a timed 15 minutes until I had to get up ask for the check because he was swamped at the bar. While the food we did get was great, the lack of service, leadership, and organization are a heavy red flag when weighing whether to choose Gas Lamp Grille over the dozens of excellent, professional, restaurants in Newport. (Included is a photograph of the receipt as proof of purchase should this review be disputed.)

TLDR: Seems like your average sports bar with some tasty lobster bonuses. Nice location, a bit expensive and loud. We came initially for drinks and had a lovely time with a table near the sidewalk. The open air was super refreshing on a hot day! The drinks were ok, but all in all, it was pleasant. So we decided to come back for a reservation for dinner. Dinner was very packed. Staff was kind, but clearly overworked. We ended up being seated after quite a few people despite having that reservation. The venue was pretty loud, it was hard to hear folks on the other side of the table. I am sure it would be even harder with live music. Lobster dishes were delicious! We got 2 lobster rolls and the lobster taco, which were so tasty. (However, the rolls seemed to be a lot of roll and not as much lobster.) The spicy clam chowder was delicious- very creamy and had the perfect amount of spice. Drinks were alright, nothing absolutely wowed me but they were ok! My brother also noted that his Guinness was poured incorrectly- I am no bartender, but apparently the instructions are common knowledge. In all, it felt like a sports bar which isn’t really my jive but I’m sure someone would be at home here!

I'm in town for the week and wanted to try lobster while in this state. In the past I did not like any lobster related dish I've tried, but this restaurant has changed me! I ordered the lobster roll with warm buttered lobster. The roll was perfectly warm with crisp edges, the lobster was buttered lightly and not salty, there was a heaping amount of lobster (I had to eat the fallen lobster with a fork) and the fries nice and crispy. The family I came with also enjoyed their meal and everyone has decided they would like to return to this restaurant at some point during our vacation. Since it was a weekday it was nice and quiet but I would not be surprised if this place has a more energetic vibe during the weekends. Our server Jess was so nice, she checked on us periodically without seeming overbearing. If I ever get the chance to return to Newport, I would visit this place again!
