Friendly Harbor — Attraction in Newport

The worst, most dishonest experience we ever had. We purchased an antique frame with a painting, and the frame needed a little bit of repair. The person who said she owned the place, Deborah, offered to repair the frame so long as we left the purchase price. We gave her $200, and she said she would call us in a week or two to let us know we could pick it up. Not getting a call, we called her, and she said she had been sick or something and would get right to it. We called again a couple of weeks later, and we got the same story. Then, we called again and she told us that she "forgot" we had purchased it and sold it to someone else (imagine that !!), and that she would immediately refund us. We awaited the check, and it turned out to be the proverbial "check is in the mail." We called (when she picked up it was "oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, I'll get it out right away"), we wrote, we even had a lawyer send her a certified letter. Bottom line - we got stiffed, never saw a penny in refund. Run for your life from this "business." We wonder how many others she sold it to . . . at least now we know what "friendly gifts" really means....

This little shop was such a lucky find! My husband and I were in Newport for a couple days for a little get a way. We happened upon this shop, and were immediately glad we did. The store owner Deborah was so friendly and really informative about what she sold. I bought a sterling silver bangle bracelet she made-so beautiful and well crafted. This store was a great find. Owner Deborah was very attentive to assist our group. We focused on the Italian leather bags in many styles and brilliant colors. New styles and colors often and they are displayed in the window. There is a corner at the back of the store for a sale area as well. Other items include jewellery and various items but we hardly had time for a look there. ...
