I was excited after doing extensive research to try this restaurant. It looked super cute and had great menu items. I made a reservation for 4 adults and a toddler at 5pm on Saturday 12/31/22. We were sat down and then told that b/c it's New Years Eve there was a pre fixed menu at $80 pp. I'd looked online previously and had been very interested in the burger. So that was disappointing that they didn't let us know when we made the reservation or before we sat. We likely would've left. The meal included a free glass of house wine, one appetizer, 6ish different dinners and three desserts. The house wine was disgusting. When placing my order I told the waiter I did not like horseradish sauce and asked if I could substitute for Any other sauce. He said I'm sorry we can't do that tonight, no substitutions. I said, then can I speak to a manager? If you expect us to pay $80 for a preset meal we were not told about in advance, it would be nice if you guys could make a substitution on a sauce. He went back to the kitchen, came back said he spoke with the cook and the cook would allow it. Not too long later our meals started coming out but only three of the four meals came out! We were patiently waiting for the fourth meal which they never told us would be delayed. One of the meals took an additional 10 plus minutes to come out! That is unacceptable. Especially with a preset menu. We got there when they first opened. It was a meal that was definitely already made in advance. That being said no manager ever came over to speak with us about our poor experience. I will not go back here in the future nor recommend it.

I had such a great experience here on a Friday night! Not only was the food amazing, but they also had live music, which made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. I ordered the grilled chicken with Caesar salad, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, and the salad was fresh, crisp, and topped with just the right amount of parmesan. The waiting time was awesome — my food came out quickly, and the service was friendly and attentive the whole time. The service was friendly and attentive, and the live music created such a fun and welcoming vibe. It was the perfect combination of great food, great service, and great ambiance. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this spot to friends! For dessert, I had the most indulgent treat a rich brownie topped with creamy ice cream, drizzled in caramel and chocolate, sprinkled with nuts, and finished with swirls of whipped cream. Every bite was a perfect balance of warm and cold, sweet and nutty. It was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked!

Quite possibly my new favorite place to eat. It’s a really cool restaurant with lots of options and great food. They’ve got a big patio out front, another area has a bar-style vibe, and the upstairs has a more elegant feel. Felt like a choose your own adventure, based on where you sit. It used to be a bank and they kept the vault front and center of the bar. A lot of the decor upstairs has a renaissance feel. The straws are made of gluten free pasta. It’s a small example of the attention to detail by this place. The build your own boards are really good. We did the honey, goat cheese, burrata, duck, and crostinis. I also got the clam chowder which was really good. By the time our entrees arrived we were pretty full, but the entrees were great as well. Then, just for the hell of it, we got the bread pudding and apple crisp to go :) Service was a little slow but very friendly and got everything right. I cannot recommend this place more highly. I’ll be back often for at least drinks, boards, and desserts!

My recent visit to Bar and Board was a disheartening affair, marked by a series of regrettable events that tainted what should have been a pleasant dining experience.

The disappointment began with a phone call to inquire about gluten-free options (no mention online indicating options). Instead of receiving helpful information, the staff responded with surprising rudeness, displaying a lack of willingness to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Despite this initial setback, I decided to proceed with my reservation, hoping for a better experience at the restaurant itself.

Upon entering, the promising ambiance quickly faded as we ordered a salmon dish that arrived with an unexpected flaw – the fish was undercooked, leaving the center raw. This not only compromised the taste but also raised concerns about the kitchen's attention to detail and quality control. I understand mistakes happen and the stress of the job but we were the only ones in the restaurant and that should've given them ample time to cook fish properly.

The disappointment extended to the service, where servers at Bar and Board were not only rude but also openly displayed disapproval with dirty looks. From dismissive attitudes to impatience, it became increasingly evident that customer satisfaction was not a priority. These unprofessional behaviors significantly detracted from the overall dining experience.

To add insult to injury, when the bill arrived, I noticed that the suggested 20% appeared to be higher than the actual 20% calculation. This discrepancy in billing practices, coupled with the earlier service issues, only deepened my dissatisfaction and left me questioning the restaurant's integrity.

Overall, my experience at Bar and Board was one filled with disappointment. From the subpar preparation of the salmon to the rude servers, questionable billing practices, and the unsettling display of dirty looks, I cannot recommend this establishment to fellow diners. In a city abundant with dining options, it's disheartening to encounter a restaurant that falls short on multiple fronts. Save your time and money and explore other culinary offerings...

Bar and Board Bistro is an absolute gem in Newport! From the moment you step in, you're transported to a blend of historic charm and modern vibes that truly captures the essence of this seaside city. Atmosphere is great and staff is friendly.

The attention to detail is remarkable, with the historic bank vault behind the marble bar and the Bellevue Ave-inspired lounge exuding unique Newport vibes. The Leopard Lounge is a personal favorite – the ambiance is just delightful.

The cocktails at Bar and Board are a journey back in time, reminiscent of Newport's golden decades. Sipping on those carefully crafted drinks, you can't help but feel connected to the rich history of the area.

What truly sets this place apart is their dedication to quality and locally sourced ingredients. I absolutely love their take on classic New England cuisine with a Mediterranean twist – it's a flavor experience like no other.

Whenever I visit, I can't resist starting with their mouthwatering clam chowder – it's become a tradition for me. And let's not forget the Crispy Filet of Salmon – an absolute favorite that never disappoints.

Whether you choose to dine indoors or on the patio, the immersive experience on scenic Thames Street is unparalleled. The fact that it's located right across from Bowen's Wharf adds to the allure.

The entertainment offerings upstairs, including DJs, musicians, and pop-up events, make for a perfect night out. It's clear that Bar and Board is not just a restaurant – it's a celebration of Rhode Island's rich history and culture.

Kudos to Carolyn Rafaelian for creating such a remarkable establishment. Her values shine through in every aspect of the business.

If you're in Newport and looking for an unforgettable dining experience that combines history, culture, and fantastic food, look no further than Bar and Board Bistro. It's a must-visit that never...
