My long-time friend wanted to take me out to lunch. She had Tub Tim Thai in mind for our lunch date. She highly recommended this restaurant in downtown Skokie. Now I have to be honest. I have eaten at several different Thai restaurants and never thought the food was all that great. So my expectations were not that high when we arrived at Tum Tim Thai.
The inside of the restaurant is a pleasant place not too highly decorated, but quiet since there were about five or six tables with other diners.
My friend ordered an appetizer, Meant Kim, which consisted of fresh Chapoo leaves topped with roasted coconut, sun-dried shrimp, bean sprouts, ground peanuts, diced ginger, shallots, lime and peanuts along with a side of hot Thai sauce and the regular sauce.
When I saw that it had coconuts, I was worried. I really do not like coconut. However once I applied the regular sauce I absolutely loved the flavors. Excellent appetizer.
Then my friend ordered what she wanted and I am sorry, but I can not remember what she ordered but I guess it was a dish she usually orders. I ordered the Stir-Fried Vegetables which included red rice, mushrooms, asparagus, pea pods, carrots, onions and green beans. I added sliced pork and it came with a side of the regular sauce and a wonderful peanut sauce. I absolutely loved this dish. I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful flavors.
I would say that Tum Tim Thai is a wonderful place to come and enjoy a wonderful meal, plus the waitress/hostess Abby was wonderful to have work with us and serve us. Her mother Chantra is the cook.
Just the best Thai food I have ever had. I highly recommend Tum Tim Thai. This restaurant is located in downtown Skokie at 4927...
Read moreDine in with 3 of my friends. Best Tom Yum Goong I've had outside of Thailand. I was surprised to see on menu that they had Tom Yum only with chicken and tofu. I would expect shrimp to be standard. I asked and they happily substituted shrimp. It was excellent. Good portion size, with many shrimp and mushrooms. Flavorful. It was a meal for me. Could've shared with one other person if I had ordered an additional entree.
Little bit of language barrier, but adds to the authenticity :)
Friendly service.
"Spicy" came with a bit of a warning from waiter. But I wouldn't say it was very spicy for Thailand standards. I think it was the perfect amount of spice for Tom Yum, but I think I would've been disappointed if I had asked for less spicy option. So, I would say that if you frequently eat spicy food, spicy will not be too spicy. At least with...
Read moreFirst time dining here and it was alright. My husband and i walked in there and didn’t realize you seat yourself so we just stood there for a while until we realized it ourself. We were there with one other party but service was slow. My husband and I ordered spring rolls but what came out definitely didn’t look like your traditional spring rolls. It tasted like a mouthful of bean sprout (3 ingredients in there- egg, cucumber, and bean sprout) I told the waitress I think we meant egg rolls and she just shrugged it off and left. Crab Rangoon’s were okay, I couldn’t taste any crab.. they tasted more like cream cheese Rangoon’s. I ordered the vegetable pad kee mow and my husband ordered the vegetable fried rice. The entrees were both good which is why I’m giving this 3 stars instead of 1. I’d come here again but probably for take out...
