My friends and I were in town for the St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs game. We had a group of 7 and divided up into three rooms. Upon check-in we paid and extra $10/night to have three in one room (two people stayed in each of the other two rooms). The manager on duty was very confrontational as we checked in; he said several times, threateningly, that we'd be charged $100 extra if he "found extra people in our rooms." Now, let me clarify: we are not a bunch of twenty-something college kids. Our group of thirty-somethings included engineers, teachers, a nurse, etc. Respectable group, right? We certainly were not treated like that. Despite the rude check in, we though, "What the heck, we'll only be here two nights," and proceeded to check in. Big mistake. The first night, five of us went out to dinner together, while two stayed behind. The two that stayed behind thought they heard a knock on their door and opened it to find the manager's wife rifling through the adjoining friends' room! She stammered that there had been a "noise complaint" on that room, but the two folks staying there had been at dinner for over an hour! We should have packed up then and left, but we stupidly didn't. Yeah, it gets worse. The next day (Saturday), we headed downtown for the game. We had a ton of fun, went out to dinner afterwards, and arrived back at the hotel around 9 p.m. The seven of us came in together and QUIETLY headed to our rooms for bed. Within minutes, the same manager who had checked us in was calling the room of three, demanding someone come talk to him because he had "seen them sneak someone in." One of the women went to talk to him and, within minutes, he was screaming at her. The rest of us down the hall could hear him yelling and one friend walked down to see what was going on. Looooong story short, the manager absolutely refused to A) Check the security footage to disprove his accusation or B) Come search all of our rooms. Instead, he insisted that we had to leave his hotel and called the police! When the police arrived, they were so sympathetic and said they had problems with this manager all the time. They helped us find another hotel and pack up our cars. Obviously, we weren't loud, belligerent, etc. The police helped us load our cars and let us drive to the next hotel. Additionally, they told the manager he had to refund us for the night and was not allowed to charge us the $100 that he threatened us with. On Sunday, we all checked our credit cards and found that, instead, he'd refunded two cards, but charged on for the additional night PLUS the $100. Now we are embroiled in a fraudulent credit card charge dispute. I have never been to a lower quality, less professional, crazier hotel. I would rather sleep in my car than this Super 8. The manager is certifiably insane and, on top of that, apparently lets his wife wonder the hotel and break into unattended rooms. My recommendation: stay as far as way as possible from the Super 8 in Morton...
Read moreWe arrived at the hotel around 5 pm on July 26, checked in and found out they booked us in a 2nd floor room although our reservation was acknowledged for an accessible 1st floor room accomodations two days prior to our arrival. (We found out from front desk that the customer staying in the accessible room extended their stay thus preventing us from getting the contracted accessible room). They offered to book us instead with Red Roof Inn which we declined. Having no other choice in the matter, we took the 2nd floor room. Room #219 in all appearances was a nice room but had a smelly bathroom. We informed the front desk about the situation and front desk moved us out to Room 222. The layout, decor, and furnitures of the new room overall we're topnotch. But the TV sets in rooms 219 and 222 although of different brands we're not Smart TVs and only offered local and a very limited number of TV channels to choose from.
In room # 222, I noticed that the water temperature was neutral but leaning towards the cold side while brushing my teeth before going to bed. The following morning, my wife got up first to take a shower and found the shower handle was broken and that hot water was not forthcoming from the faucet shower nor the sink. Dialing the hot water and running the sink faucet for about 3 minutes did not change the temperature of the cold water. At this juncture, we decided to cut short our schedule to stay another day and checked out. We have been a loyal client of this hotel in the past and have designated it our 'go to' hotel whenever visiting my Aunt because of it's proximity to her house in Skokie. This arrangement will probably change considering all the negative experiences of our one night stay in this hotel.
Questions:
Are hotels required to provide hot water to it's customers?
Can an hotel break a contract to benefit a customer at the expense of another?
Should we get a partial or full refund and/or get compensated for the hotel's actions?
Should senior citizens and/or handicapped people be protected by law from such actions committed by this...
