The Halal Guys — Restaurant in Niles Township

My family and I had a terrible experience at this Skokie location in July 2022.

I saw on Google they close at 11 pm. I called at 9:44 pm to confirm closing hours and the person confirmed 11 pm is closing and final seating is at 10:30 pm.

We arrived at 10:19 pm and had finished paying at 10:24 pm. We got to a table at 10:26 pm and the employees told us we can’t sit and eat because final dine in is at 10:30.

I would never want to keep anyone working longer than normal because I’ve worked in fast food before too and I get the frustration.

But if closing is at 11 pm and final seating is at 10:30, normally as long as you’re sitting before 10:30 you should be able to sit. And if that isn’t the case, I would’ve appreciated some extra clarification from the employees before we ordered and paid that we wouldn’t be allowed to dine in, but they waited until after we paid to tell us.

We tried reasoning with the manager back and forth for a few minutes. The second it turned 10:30 he said they’re now closed and we had to eat outside.

Finally, one of the other employees dropped a metal chair and it made an extremely loud noise, not entirely sure why. Maybe out of frustration or to intimidate us?

Either way, it was a really terrible experience for myself and my family overall.

I would not recommend...

The food was great! We love it!

But!... beware when you order online, because there will be some big time mistakes. We were told we were going to be refunded our money ($60) by the owner... never happened.

Also beware when you order in-person!

I first asked for 2 platters and a sandwich. The employee only started making the platters, so I had to remind him of the sandwich.

He never asked me if I wanted anything else, so I let him know that I wanted 3 orders of 2pc falafel. He only gives me one order of falafel. I tell him that I need two more orders. He gives me just one more order. I tell him I need 3 orders of 2. He slams the falafel into the fryer, and then he tells me "You know, you should've just said 6." as if it didn't make sense when I said "3 orders of 2pc falafel." It was for three people. They each wanted their own order.

And! Instead of the three other coworkers helping the first employee so the order could be finished quickly, they are gossiping, giggling, smacking each other on the head, and distracting the employee making my order which made it take about 15min to complete because of all the back and forth about the falafel!

The owner has to work on who is hired and actually stick to their word; we never got our refund and your employees need to fix...

First time visit and let me tell you all about it... last week, when watching YouTube, I saw The Halal Guys as one of the fastest growing franchise food in NY. All great, they are doing good job but I'm leaving in Chicago suburbs, and the food looks delicious how can I have some. Quick Google search showed me 3 locations in the Chicago area, so I made a plan to visit the Skokie location. Got there late lunch time Saturday, place was not crowded, first impression was "I hope this will be good" So I step up to the counter and told the young man on the other side that I will like to have the chicken gyro combo plate with everything they offer on it plus tons of the white sauce. Then, I shared my story with him. The conversation was great he made me one more plate of sizzling chicken, of course, with a ton of white sauce MUST have LOL. Took some red sauce to go. Very good if you like SPICY. Ask him if he recommends any other item, and he did... cheesecake, and I'm glad he did it was delicious!! Over all great experience, very good food. I'm glad I took a gamble and drove 40 minutes each way. Will be back for sure to get more of the combo plate it was very good 😋 So sorry I didn't get the young man name he was very professional and helpful (give him a raise 🙏)...
