Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Niles

I dont generally write reviews or opinions but after my last visit at Applebees in Niles earlier this week I felt obligated as to what I witnessed. Let me start off by saying me and my husband have been dining here for years and in that time have never had any issues worth mentioning, and this visit was no different. What we DID witness this time however were 2 of the most vile and unfriendly patrons we have ever seen as we were seated right next to them. Our waiter was Michael who we have had before, and he is one of the friendly and delightful waiters we have ever had at a restaurant, very kind and wonderful smile! Well he also had to take care of the table next to us and from the moment we heard them get placed in the same section as us we knew they were going to be trouble. First they were seated at a booth further towards the front door but we could hear them complaining about the temperature and Michael instantly moved them down next to us. As he walked away we could hear them complaining to each other about the surface of their table. When he came back with their drinks it looked as though she was wiping off the table with wet wipes and Michael immediately addressed the problem and offered to clean it for them, and he proceeded to grab a spray bottle and paper towels and cleaned it for them. Then we heard the woman complain to her husband about a dirty plate and every time Michael came to this table this Hoity Toity couple had something to complain about....not enough napkins, water wasn't hot enough, wanted new silverware, etc. I don't usually eavesdrop on people but this woman was so incredibly stuck up and rude it was hard not to pay attention. Eventually the manager came by to check on everything and the woman said "Everything is fine" with a horrible attitude. The incredible amount of patience and reserve that this staff has to have to put up with people like that is Astounding! But the worst part, the part that just infuriated me to where I decided to make this post in the first place, is the part where as they were talking she mentioned to him that she had planned to contact someone, like the health department or the head office....over a dirty table!! As I said previously we have been going to this restaurant for YEARS and have always been very happy with the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to go Above and Beyond to fix any issue that may arise. But when I witness how truly ugly some people can be towards other people over the smallest of things it forces me to have that much more appreciation for the workers who have to endure these people on a regular basis with a smile and just keep working! I'd really give it a 3.4. When we got there the right side of the restaurant (which is the small side, only fits 1 row of booths and 1 row of tables) was completely packed with teens or kids in the early 20's and it was very loud. We had our 3 year old with us and sometimes she can yell a bit or will watch her tablet. The whole other side of the restuarant had empty tables all throughout it. When the hotess tried to seat us on the right with all the loud college age kids i politely asked if we could shoot anywhere on the other side to help keep my daughter from being loud and upset and crowded and also to be considerate of the college aged kids who looked like the had been drinking. The hostess was actually very rude about it, she gave us a deadly glare and scoffed in our faces before storming off the lead us away from the crowd. We almost left right then because who wants to pay to be made to feel like they are an inconvenience, but we were already there so we stayed. I believe she told the manager that we were going to be difficult because he personally came ot off the office to get our drink orders. After speaking with us and seeing that we were nothing but polite they brought someone else to be our waiter. Everything else was great. That manager and waiter were pleasant and the waiter kept checking on our needs throughout the meal. The food was great (other than the kids pizza, but that's too be expected from Applebees) the prices were great with half price appetizers and the drink of the month (some strawberry and twizzler margarita thing) was delicious. When we're left we we'reglad were had stayed b/c the rest of the night went so well and my 3 year old couldn't have been happier. Had it not been for the nasty reaction from the hostess at our request to not be seated in the most rowdy and crowded area with our baby the night whould have been perfect and they would've gotten closer to a 4.8 or 5 star...

I did a carside order, granted I got there a little late but after checking in I waited 20 minutes and no sign of anyone or my order. I watched as another person that had been waiting went in, got her food after being in there for quite some time, came back to her car and ended up going back in again with the bags. I can only assume she was given the wrong order or something along those lines. I decided to call into the restaurant since I had my dog with me and couldn't leave the car unattended with her in it. The girl that answered the phone seemed okay at first but I was quickly met with a " I can't hear you" that came off very rude and was very off putting. I explained that I was there for carside and that I had been waiting 20 minutes and asked if anyone was coming out. I was put on hold for a few minutes and when she came back on, I missed the beginning of what she said but it was followed by "she is the only one working" or something to that affect then followed up with someone will be out soon. In total I waited about 30 minutes before I saw anyone. The girl that came to the car confirmed my name for the order (appreciated), I told her if they can't handle carside they need to shut it down. The reply as she walked away was " I don't know, I'm not a manager" I finally get home and decided to do the survey with the code provided on the receipt and that didn't even work so here I am. I will be speaking to a manager on the phone because having someone stand in the cold just because I'm upset isn't right to them. This was my first and last time ever spending money at this location.
