The Rage — Restaurant in Niles

“The Rage” is more than likely named after the mood their customers will leave in. Disappointing experience this past Friday. We decided to give this place another shot (after a let-down the first time my husband and I went) as a friend group of 6. We were ultimately left never wanting to return again (for real this time).

Cons: Service: #1. 4 of us got our food at the same time and 2 of our friends were left empty handed for over 15-20 minutes just staring at us eat. The waitress finally stopped by and asked if everything was okay - clearly it was not as 4 people were pretty much done eating with 2 still waiting. She was clearly bothered by us pointing out we were missing 2 dishes. She angrily dropped off the missing dishes later on. No apologies or accountability for their mistake. #2. Our friend asked for steak on his loaded fries- no steak added at all (see below under Food for more about the “loaded” fries) #3. Waitress was bothered/angry the entire time, even when the place made several mistakes - messed up food items, brought us different drinks than requested, etc). She would not come back to check-in. #4. Waiting time was very long for a place that wasn’t even that busy to begin with. #5. Not directly about our experience but worth noting - people literally left before even ordering, and some were seen leaving after only ordering drinks because of the service. Food: #1. The Mac N Cheese was a let-down (I don’t know how you can mess up Mac n Cheese but I digress). It was too sour like they emptied a whole container of just sour cream into it which overpowered everything about a potentially okay dish. #2. The “loaded fries” were a joke. A small plate of regular fries with a dash of bacon bits and some sour cream. Do not order as an appetizer and definitely not as a meal - think of it as a sample. #3. The corn chips that come with the “Bowls” were STALE.

So I don't normally put restaurants on blast but...... Let me tell y'all about our experience tonight at The Rage in Niles. So first off staff was fine. Forgot cheese on husband's burger but got it back out right away so ok no biggie. Well then I think another waitress forgot something on another order (not ours) and at this point the owner is out checking on tables, and is visibly irritated. Ok this is where it got crazy to me. First let just say we are the only inter-racial couple in whole place. Everyone else was white only. THE OWNER literally stopped at every table BUT OURS to ask how everyone was doing and not just once but probably half a dozen times while we're there. Never even makes eye contact with us. Then proceeded to CUSS OUT (saying f word multiple times) about his employees and saying he should replace them all LOUDLY! I thought this was extremely unprofessional and actually felt bad for all the girls working. On that note food was good, but because of how the owner acted with cussing and slamming stuff down (also children in ear shot) I will personally never go back and will actually write a review for my very first time because honestly have never felt discriminated against with my husband ever before nor heard a boss belittle their staff so blatantly in front of customers. First time here can honestly say was one of the worst experiences at a restaurant. First, it's a seat yourself which causes confusion and chaos on inexperienced wait staff. Second, the wait staff seemed to be all over the place we had 3 different waiters over the course of our experience. The first waiter/host was very nice and cleaned off the table for us and gave us menus, the second was a very rude woman who complained about working to jobs and that she was unable to do mental math when checking an ID for someone born in 2001 and the third was a younger girl who seemed nice as well. Third when we were sat no silverware or napkins were there we had to ask for them as well as more water, we were not come up to by staff to see how our food was or if there was anything we needed. The waitress who too our drink and appetizers came up to us and asked if we order tots and we had to remind her yes as well as chips and salsa when she took the order. Two of us ordered mac and cheese and the other two ordered shrimp scampi which came with salads. The two salads never came and we asked for them togo because at this point we had been there for over an hour. The food was alright, we ordered loaded tots which barely had any toppings. The Mac and cheese tasted bland so good thing I got chicken with it. We saw a couple leave before even ordering and another that got there after us had there food and salads before we got our meal.
