My boyfriend and I have eaten here for 2 years every Sunday. We loved the food even though the customer service could have been better. Two weeks ago we ordered our food on Sunday like we always do and had a horrible experience. I went to pick up the food since we stopped getting it delivered, it was delivered cold to many times and we were tired of eating cold pizza. We still liked the food enough to keep going there. Anyways i went to pick up and when i got there the total was different then what i was told over the phone which happens almost every time i pick up. I took my food and realized i was missing a box so i walked back in and said i thought i was missing something, come to find out they gave me the wrong order and then seemed aggravated with me like it was my fault they gave me the wrong order. I mentioned how the total is always different and she said that they probably are not factoring in the charge to make the meal a combo. Even though the difference in the total was more than $1.99 which is the charge to make it a combo. She did not give me money back and did nothing to fix the issue i had. When i got home the food was so cold i did not even finish my meal. My boyfriend said he never wanted to eat there again and if he wasn't starving he would have brought the food back up there. If this is how they treat customers that spend money with them every week for 2 years then i want nothing to do with them. I have had customer service issues with them before the employees there are VERY VERY RUDE and i am done dealing with them. Hopefully the owner of Sal's will see this and i know he will not be happy with knowing this is how his customers are treated. I have tried to speak to him personally but no one will ever let me. I WILL NEVER EAT AT SAL'S EVER AGAIN! If you didn't have to pick at least one star i wouldn't because thats way to much for them. I am normally not one to complain but this goes to show just how bad the experience with Sal's has been. Please if you want hot food and good customer service do...
Read moreSome background to start: I lived in NYC for 10 years. I know great pizza. I'm also very discerning in my taste and the decor.
I ordered their lunch special 2 slices to go: 1 of pepperoni and 1 of cheese plus a fountain drink for $4.80. This is what I thought, in the order of my experience.
Decor: Shabby but clean. A small narrow space but nothing glaring out of the ordinary. No weird smells.
Food: Reheated slices with pepperoni- no extra sprinkling of fresh cheese on top. Not too much grease. But that may be because the slices looked like they had been sitting there all day. Maybe a fresh pie would be better? Due to the lack of freshness, the pie was pretty dry and resulted in extra crispiness of the crust. The cheese was clumpy, the texture of frozen pizza. The reheating process wasn't even long enough to soften it up. The sauce on the other hand was decent for stale pizza. Slightly sweet, and not too thick.
Service: I don't really care for service in general. Either the food is good or it's not. But for the masses that do, the phone service was nice and light (she keeps calling you "love" every 2-3 sentences lol) and there wasn't anything out-of-the-ordinary when I went in to pick it up. Decent people.
Conclusion: Would I go back for their pie if I had a choice? No. Would I go back if it was the only place open? No. Was it the worst I've had? Close but not quite. One thing that bothered me was the pizza guy making pies without sani-gloves, and also the fact that he kept his wedding ring on while doing so... is that sanitary? I don't know but I won't be risking another attempt after that.
Caveats: I came in toward the tail end of their lunch, right before 4pm, so maybe that explains the stale slices? Either way......
Read moreWhere do I start with this slumbum place of Pizza Shop?!!_One Word= HORRIBLE!!! "hot" temperature ranch dressing when I ordered blue cheese. A "philly steak" pizza that was delivered luke-warm at best! && since when is a "philly-style" anything (sandwich or pizza) made with the red (marinara) sauce---Straight! Idiots! The chicken pizza was luke-warm with chicken sparsely spread over it. The garlic knots that weren't even delivered probably would have had more chicken on them than the nasty pizza...LOL, but Not Really! More like pissed off!! So as if that wasn't enough,, when I call to express my deep dismay & dissatisfaction-- waited on hold 4 mins to speak back to Kevin ( the order-taker) because some ignorant broad didn't even have the decency to handle the call with customer care....Kevin gets on the line & had the nerve to say he "only takes the order down" & was quick to hand me off to some non- english speaking manager who refused to give me his name-- DamnShame!! Funny how i was able to get the name of the delivery guy (flying Bryan), but not the manager on duty! This place SUCKS MAJOR!!!!!! In all fairness, I do have 1 positive report-- that dismal delivery did arrive prior to the 45 min timeline that was rendered. Deliver my $40+ dollars back...
