Northern Tool + Equipment — Local services in Norfolk

I stopped in here recently to use a gift card I received at Christmas. Being a computer guy I have spare parts everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. They're scattered between a toolbox that's been outgrown for several years and various other containers, boxes, bags, etc. My mission, to find a compartmentalized toolbox and small storage drawer case.

This was my first time in the Janaf Shopping Center location. As I recall this is the building that Circuit City built just before they went out of business, so I have to say this was a great "get" for Northern Tool moving into a practically brand new building when they did a few years back.

The layout pretty easy, you come in, and then the story is basically a circular ring around the retail showroom with isles on either side of the ring. In short order I found the small storage drawer chest in the back left of the store. The toolbox was a little harder to find and I covered the whole store looking for them after finding various other options in a couple of different areas. Finally I found the toolboxes in the very center of the store on an end cap and also found exactly what I was looking for. A double layer storage box with removable modules.

Just my luck while I was visiting Northern was having a storage sale. I received a nice discount on both the toolbox and storage drawer case. I think I spent about $15 maybe $20 bucks along with the $25 gift card I had. Most excellent.

I found the place impeccably clean and the staff and service was first rate. I'll be coming here...

Walked into the store on July 31 for a truck tool box they advertised to be in stock. After spending time looking they said it was sold out but could order for me. Their online price was $40 less than the store. I asked if they would match, they accepted and took my information and charged my card. Guy said it would be “a couple days” A week later I called and was told they didn’t have the order. Put me on hold for 30 mins. I called back and was put on hold again and finally after another 30 mins spoke with a manager who promised to call me the next morning with an exact estimate of when my toolbox would be in. He said he could see the order and everything was “good”. No call no message so I called again on August 8th. Same answer “can’t see your order, are you sure you ordered from us” I ask for a manager again, on hold again, manager gets on the phone “I know who you are, your order was never placed” even though they took the money! Northern, you had 6 different people talk to me on the phone and had 6 different opportunities to make this right! I am forced to call my credit card company and fight to get my money back! Today is Aug 10th and still...

Husband and I went to Northern Tool (Military Hwy) on 20 February 2019.

There were multiple customers, including us, that needed assistance. There was ONE floor worker, and he was constantly on the store phone. I ended up having to press the tool repair bell, and the manager came up. I explained how we couldn't find a floor worker, and he huffed that he only had one. Then when my husband inquired about a welding tool, he replied "Well, we clearly dont have it, that's why you can't find it.", and walked off.

I ran into 3 other customers that needed help, and were irritated by the lack of employees. The employee who was on the store phone apparently got off the clock as another employee (who none of us even saw) walked in, and another customer got irritated that he was laughing at the customer as he was walking out the door.

I have NEVER seen such terrible customer service. I personally will not be...
