This place is my latest obsession. It is hands down the best donut shop by far for me here. I've gone a few times, and it was time I show my love and appreciation lol. This shop has a very old school vibe that gives you a little nudge of nostalgia whenever you go in. The aesthetic really brings you back with the blue trays that remind you of bakeries and cafeterias back in the day. The assortment can't be beat. Long John's, to cinnamon rolls, to donut holes, to old fashion sour cream, to cake, and yeast. I mean the list goes on! (Yes, even apple fritters and bear claws). I've tried them all, and it just truly hits the spot. I've had to stop myself from getting some DAILY because the taste is just phenomenal on every single item. The only sad part is that once they're out, it's for the day. I mean I totally get that since it's fresh! I advise to get here slightly early as I have a feeling this place will absolutely become a huge staple in Norfolk quickly. I've been enjoying it quietly, but it was time to shout to the rooftops about how amazing this place is. Small owned husband and wife business, that's serving amazing treats at an honest price. There is truly nothing lacking so far, and most importantly it's clean and neat. A huge thing for me. What more could you truly ask for? Donut dugout, you have my approval and more! Most importantly, you have my love! lol. I am proud to call myself a...

My wife told me about this little spot which she heard from a coworker. We are always lookin for local spots to try. Now we had already heard that this place sell out on the regular so we knew we had to try them over the weekend and early. Well we hit them up this morning. On our way there a car cut in front of us in traffic turns out a few min later we see the same car at the donut dugout hahahaha, i guess he had to get here b4 the donuts are all gone smh, but a giod sign we are in the right spot hahahaha. Its a small place just right though. The customer service was great nicw people very helpful. They have alot of choices from cream filled donut, original glazed, crullers, old fashion, bear claws, to apple fritters and more. We got and assortment including a big cinammon roll and apple fritter. We enjoyed all BEST FRITTER I EVER HAD. The Hype is Real about the Donut Dugout! Get there...

I heard about this place Friday from a patron and knew I had to try it. We need better options for legit fresh bakeries that don't charge $10 a donut in this area. All they had were fritters, regular glazed and iced donuts left when I went in on Saturday. The donuts were delicious and the fritter was good too (but what I would consider a little too decadent/ sugar rich/icing heavy for my taste) UNTIL something sharp almost cut my tongue. I pulled the mystery out to see that it was a broken finger nail! Baked right into the fritter :( My stomach and mind were upset for a few hrs after that. Not sure that I'll be going back.

Update: I came back to acknowledge that after the business response, I did re-examine the thing I found in the fritter, and can see that it absolutely may have been...

Absolutely delicious donuts!! If you love donuts, and a huge variety, The Donut Dugout definitely has you covered. They have "raised" donuts ("Krispy Kreme style" but WAY fluffier and homemade), cake donuts, buttermilk, old fashioned, twists, long johns, cruellers, donut holes, apple fritters and bear claws. They offer a variety of filled donuts as well, with different icings, glazes and toppings. I went here the day before Thanksgiving and it was so good I couldn't wait until they were open again on Saturday to return and try more donuts. Everything I have tried so far has been fresh and delicious, and I'd say it is definitely worth the 40-minute round trip drive for me to get these amazing small-batch homemade donuts. You will not be disappointed if you go here.
