Wah gwaan — Restaurant in Norfolk

I stopped by and saw that the menu listed Jerk Chicken and Curry Chicken at $12.99 each. I asked the cashier if I could get a half-and-half combo, half Jerk, half Curry in a single container. She checked with someone in the back and returned to say that was possible.

However, once my food was bagged and I went to pay, I was shocked to hear the total was $32 for just one container. When I asked about the price, she told me I had been given a “combo,” which apparently costs $24 before tax. That’s basically more than double the price of a single dish.

To be clear, most places might charge an extra $1 or $2 for a half-and-half option, not the price of two full meals. I could have gotten two separate trays for the same cost. This felt excessive.

On top of that, the container was mostly loaded with rice. My second side of cabbage was barely there, maybe a single forkful or two at best. For the price I paid, I expected better portioning and quality.

The food itself was just okay. Edible, but far from impressive. It's unfortunate, because I might have been a repeat customer. Instead, this was a one-and-done experience. If you're craving Jamaican food, do yourself a favor and head down the street to MPs. You'll get better value and likely a better meal.

I really wanted to enjoy my experience at Wah Gwaan. The staff was friendly and the food presentation looked great, which gave me high hopes. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown.

We ordered the Tropical Jerk Chicken—one with white rice, one with rice and peas. After just a couple bites, I noticed something was off. The rice had a strange smell and tasted spoiled. I couldn’t finish it. The chicken was extremely spicy to the point that it masked any real flavor. I enjoy spice, but this was excessive and unbalanced.

We were also told the cabbage would be ready in “about a minute,” but what we received was extremely hard and clearly undercooked—definitely not ready to be served.

To make matters worse, it’s now 3:27am and my stomach is in serious pain. $36 wasted and I’m left feeling miserable. Very...

It was hard to find and did a little walking because I'm not familiar with the outlet, but it was worth the drive and the walk. Food was fresh and full of flavor and on a Monday afternoon. Sometimes you get stake leftovers in Monday, but the food was fresh and some food still being cooked. Had the curry goat and oxtail and they are winners. Definitely the best tasting curry goat I've had in the 757. Let's be sure we support this restaurant. I can't imagine the cost of rent to be located in the premium outlets so spread the word, tag and review. We don't have many good spots in the 757 so when one opens up(thats good), we have to support!...
