tl;dr: very expensive, stale rolls, lame ass french fries. Overall not great
I'll start this review off by disclosing that I grew up with Nicks, so my roast beef joint standards are pretty high. With that said, I've tried many other roast beef places and found some that are nearly as good as Nicks, so I know my standards aren't impossibly high. So if Nicks is a 5 star, I've found alot of 4 star places. Unfortunately, Harrison's isn't one of them. I recently read that this place was supposed to be good, so we gave it a try. My wife and I each got a large 3-way, and we split a fry and onion rings. For some reason, they call a 3 way a cheese-S-M, which I find really dumb. Why deviate from basically every other beef place? Anyway, the beef was mediocre, kind of fatty. The mayo and sauce were haphazardly dumped on, so you got some bites with none, and other bites where it squirted out of the sandwich. The rolls were stale. I absolutely hated the fries, they were cheap, tallow filled crinkle fries. The onion rings were ok, but were the heavily battered, almost like tempura, and I seriously doubt they were made in house. The guys working were a bit unfriendly, and it was really expensive. I would not go back here, and if you are craving a beef and near North Andover, keep driving. P.S. I have to ask previous reviewer Zachary Clement, have you even been to Nicks? Maybe you are a friend of Harrison's owner...
Read more30 years ago this place was amazing. I went back yesterday for the first time in probably 10 years. The last time I was there, I was astounded by the lack of cleanliness and complete disrepair of the place. Looking over the counter where they make the sandwiches, I was a bit concerned that the board of health would shut the place down. I took a chance and enjoyed the sandwich which brought me back to the late 80s and early 90s.... I went in yesterday and ordered the same thing that I've always ordered.... I was equally as shocked by my visit yesterday as I was by my visit a decade earlier, but perhaps even more so.... the place is a mess, absolutely filthy and falling apart. As I watched them make my sandwich I cringed at the prospect of what might be headed my way, but again, I optimistically ordered my food and prayed that I wouldn't get sick afterwards. Well this time I wasn't so lucky. I will never go back. There are so many places that take pride in what they do and provide an equally good (and better) product. Sadly, Harrison's days are over. It's a shame that they drove this car into the ground until the wheels and doors fell off. Maybe somebody will come in someday and clean the place up. Until that time comes, I will remain in awe that the board of health hasn't shut down what was once an...
Read moreHarrison's has been my go to since forever. The meat is perfectly cooked; that is to say juicy without being sopping and still pink. I am a big fan of the North Shore roast beef sandwich and Harrison's makes a really fine example. They also have the friendliest staff in the world. They may all look like bikers (or Vikings) and some of the may well be bikers (or Vikings), but they're all super efficient and pleasant. This place also has some of the best fries, always hot and fresh, crispy crinkle cut style.
Pro-tip: if you've never had a North Shore style beef sandwich before, get it one of three ways; 1) just mayo 2) sauce and mayo 3) cheese, sauce, and mayo (called athree way) and "sauce" is a sort of tangy, slightly spicy, thin barbecue-like (but not particularly...
