We used to love this place. Yesterday we stopped in for a fish n chips "fix". We were soooo disappointed in the meal we were served. First impression is that the portions looked very undersized on the plate. The fish was two blocks. Each block was about 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" square and about 3-1/2" long. There were about 20 fries. It looked kind of comical on the plate because the portions were so damn small. Also, the coleslaw was served in a tartar sauce cup. I would say there were maybe two tablespoons of coleslaw. Wow. But, back to the the fish. I picked up one fish block and there was a puddle of oil under it and the bottom of the fish block was soaked in oil and discolored from the oil. The middle of the fish was sopping wet, mushy, soggy and had the appearance of being under cooked. The outside of the fish was slightly overcooked. I asked the waitperson if they used frozen fish. She said no and that they pride themselves on excellent fish n chips. She asked what she could do and I asked for one more piece of fish. I was hoping the fish I got on my plate was an anomaly. The replacement fish block was identical to what I was served initially: overcooked exterior, under cooked inside, oily bottom.....terrible. I could not eat it In the past we have enjoyed excellent fish n chips at the NBBG. I know and they know they are way better than this. We were comp'd the meal, but that does not fix a flawed and terrible fish problem. I suggest the chef and the owner, if they care, make a trip to The Lockspot Tavern for the BEST FISH N CHIPS IN WASHINGTON. They do fish to perfection and the portions are amazing for 2 dollars less than NBBG. Also, the awful, terrible fish is listed at 16 on the menu. Total rip. I hope they try to fix this.
