UPDATE: They responded, making the false assertion that I was at another location and that they couldn't find my order. So, let's make this very clear. I was in Rockville for an appointment and stopped by for this breakfast order. The server was very friendly. It was raining fairly steady. The total for my bill was $20.63, paid in cash. I made a point of paying immediately because it would free the server for other tables. I tipped him in advance when the food was brought to the table. I snapped the photo immediately because the eggs were not as I ordered. I spoke directly to the man up front and repeated these details. He couldn't care less! Next to my table was an Asian family with a baby in the high chair. Would the restaurant have preferred that I livestreamed the service to prove I was there? The server also knows that I left after eating one slice of rye toast and taking one bite of the egg. So, to repeat my order: 2 eggs, over hard with bacon and rye toast with butter and a large orange juice. So they charged $14.85 for the food, $4.95 for the orange juice and a $.38 inflation fee with tax for a total of $20.63; I paid a tip of $5.00 (20%). To say I wasn't there is both an insult to me, and a blatant lie, and crosses into defamation of my character. I didn't even ask for a refund. Bottom line-now they get a phone call. Now, I want to speak to the owner. Trying to save face with a lie is how the restaurant made a bad situation worse...I must speak to someone now, because that's unacceptable! Noisy, and smelled of solvent. The dining area was simply not very clean. The food was awful and horribly overpriced for what was supposed to be two eggs, cooked over hard, bacon, and rye toast with butter. The orange juice was fine, but it's the only positive I have. What a shame! This place has been around for years, and it's no longer living up to its own reputation I won't be back, sadly. The eggs were cooked in something I can't quite place, but it tasted like seed oil. Gloomy day made worse by a breakfast I couldn't eat that I paid $20.00 for, plus a $5.00 tip. I didn't bother to ask for a refund, but I told the guy up front what I observed and experienced and then left. I'm not even hungry now, I am so put off.

I love The Original Pancake House! My first exposure to the chain was in West Palm Beach, Florida which closed years ago. Imagine my pleasure to discover there were other locations that were open, both in Florida and in Maryland(as well as other states). The menu and the recipes are the same, the locations are in strip mall sites and nothing to write home about. It is the feeling of home and if not perfect, it’s consistency makes it special. The waitresses are nice, some are tens while others are six. The food may be heavenly or a bit overcooked. The location may be spotless or maybe not so much. In the end, the coffee is hot, the orange juice fresh squeezed and the crepes are yummy with numerous versions available. I particularly adore the crepes which remind me of a childhood food my Grandmother made called “Palacsinta”. I order the shells and ask for fresh lemon wedges, which I squeeze onto the crepe after sprinkling table sugar on top while they are hot. In the Austrian Hungarian version, it was filled with jam, but that is a fine point. The other specialties of the house are there Apple Pancake and Dutch Baby, which require extra time and are well worth the wait. There omelets are ginormous and tasty, and can be filled with your choices of cheese, vegetable and meat. There sides of fruit are fresh and look beautiful, i.e the strawberries look like they were picked in the morning, are a luscious red and very sweet. I usually go for breakfast, so I can’t rave about lunch but the point is this company is not a cookie cutter version like other multiple location chains. Each one has it’s own individuality but manages to stay true to itself. Try them and see for yourself.

The Original Pancake House in Bethesda may have a legacy name, but the experience fell flat. The interior feels oddly sterile—think dentist’s office more than cozy breakfast spot—with worn booths and cold lighting that do little to create any warmth or charm Unfortunately, the food matched the ambiance. The bacon was burnt beyond saving—truly inedible. Buttermilk Pancakes were undercooked and doughy in the middle, and the scrambled eggs were oddly runny, lacking any fluff or seasoning. Even the plate presentation was off, with small pancakes looking lost on giant plates, and the eggs on a huge plate. Service was fine but impersonal. Overall, it felt like a place going through the motions rather than delivering a satisfying breakfast. I wouldn’t wait in line for this restaurant. You can find much better in the area that deliver quality food.

Check your receipts and check your bank account or credit card account. I have been a customer at OPH both Rockville and Bethesda for years. One week ago I visited Rockville restaurant for breakfast by myself. The server offered to take my credit card to process my payment. Hhhhhmmm, I thought this was NEW as you usually have to take your check and pay at the front. I gave him my credit card, paid and left. The next day I see TWO charges on my bank account one for $33 and one for $106. My charge was $33. I was charged for another parties bill. Immediately I called and asked to speak with manager. I spoke with Ivan explained my situation and he said he would let the owner know. I was assured it would be handled. Now today almost one week later my refund still has NOT been processed. The owner David came on the phone and told me his merchant services is CLOSED today, eventhough banks are open as it is NOT a holiday. Then he told me he wasn't notified regarding my situation until TWO days ago when I called SIX days ago. He accused me of NOT having the holiday spirit. He told me he would call on Monday. Hhhhhmmm Ivan told me the owner called THREE days ago and was unsuccessful in getting my issue rectified. Hhhhhmmm he wonders why I don't believe him. Would you? SHADY....... Why is your merchant services closed and it is NOT a holiday? Merchant Services usually are 24/7 because people are shopping 24/7 and merchants may need assistance. Any reputable business would offer to take care of this situation right away. Imagine I paid for a party of six meals and one week later I still can't receive my refund. Blame the victim. I am disappointed. Beware if it happened to me, it could happen to you!!!

Update: Yes, mistakes happen but it is how you handle mistakes that differentiates reputable businesses. Really after almost ONE week my return has NOT been initiated and then you ask me to wait until after the weekend plus the 5-10 business days depending on merchant services and your financial institutions. FYI: 'HOW QUICKLY THE MERCHANT RESPONDS TO YOUR REQUEST, AFFECTS THE TIMELINESS OF...

Avoid if you have allergies- period. Avoid if you have a handicapped member of your party. Avoid if you have a large party.

Very unhappy with our experience. It seems we got luck of the draw with hostess with a big ol nose ring who looked like she was just woken up from a nap, a mousey server who didn't know the menu, and a member of management who poorly worded her response to allergies. The kitchen walls must have been coated in a thick layer of straight-up peanut.

First off, We watched them sit an open section of well placed booths in a corner with small parties while we waited for the last member of our party.

They made my handicapped aunt stand and wait with walker and all so they could set our table up. When we set a reservation for noon and showed up ten minutes early with the bulk of the party. Waiting for my aunt to walk in with her walker, then waiting for her caregiver who just parked the car. Finally they took us back... you don't sit a large party against a wall blocking the only major entrance of a room. And the groggy hostess threw a fit when we had to move the tables away from the wall to fit any human beings there.

My poor nursing sister couldn't eat anything. The management told her they could fry something up separately but there was no guarantees there wouldn't be contamination. So she just sat and watched. When my pancakes and eggs came, I was so unhappy with the way the eggs turned out, and I swear I had a chunk of strawberry. I hate strawberry pancakes. If it wasn't for our aunt (celebrating her 71* birthday)we probably would have walked out. To make things worse our server let our drinks sit empty.

By the time everything was said and done, things could have been handled so much better. By the way NONE of the online services say they are breakfast only...
