We had both our marriage ceremony and meal there, in the same space. We were a party of 20, including me and my bride. It was great. 5/5.
COMMUNICATION & STAFF My bride was not local, so I coordinated most of it. I mostly communicated with Samantha at Leone's. Samantha was clear and, to my recollection, we did not suffer any miscommunication despite all the back-and-forth. I felt she was invested in working towards a good wedding with us. She made clear the limitations of the space while positing ideas to work within them. e.g. we could not control the music, but depending on their other clientele present, we could play some music at certain instances. Since there were no other customers as we started early saturday afternoon, Samantha played the wedding march. I hadn't even thought about that little detail; it was completely her idea.
FOOD The food was great. I personally think it's difficult to find bad italian/italian-american food in New Jersey, and Leone's was no exception. The bread was heaven! Everyone enjoyed a solid 3-course meal. We didn't bring our own alcohol, but Leone's was clear that we could if we wanted to. Additionally, we enjoyed this food at a fair price. We definitely received our money's worth.
SPACE The space was "semi-private". There's a larger area for any incoming clientele on the first level. Overlooking them is a second level as a loft or long balcony; this is where we did our ceremony and meal.
Once again, thanks to Samantha's creativity and flexibility, we were able to do a "walk down the aisle" from the entrance of the restaurant leading to the upper level loft where we had our ceremony. The space allowed for all of our guests to sit at one long table (multiple tables put together) while we did our ceremony in front of them.
We decorated it ourselves, though it was helpful that the restaurant already had a fresh flower on every table. We put our arch against the wall at the end; there our pastor spoke and married us. Where our arch was set, we had ample space to do a first dance as well as take photos with our guests. The loft only had space for us two to dance (I guess if you rent out the whole space you'd be able to have group dancing? Certainly not if you go semi-private.) My family hid my small speaker that we used to play our song for the first dance under a separate table. The restaurant just lowered their music when it was time to play ours.
All in all 5/5 stars. We're very grateful to Samantha, Humberto, and the rest of Leone's Trattoria's staff for making our special...
Read moreThis review is strictly for Customer Service and the absolute kindness we received for a botched GrubHub experience, after placing an order that was never delivered. Once our order was ready, Umberto at Leone's called us to express his displeasure that the GrubHub-assigned driver would not be available to pick up our order for another ~20 minutes, and apologized as our hot food would be cold and our cold food would be warm. I told him we understood that these things happen, and it was no reflection on Leone's, since we chose to use an outside delivery vendor. As it was getting closer to the appointed delivery time, I began tracking our GrubHub driver, who appeared to be near our neighborhood, and watched as they drove away, back to their original location. The GrubHub app then alerted me that it would be another 30+ minutes for the delivery (seriously?!) When I called the driver and asked for an update, they said went to the restaurant, but as they drove into the parking lot, the app told them the order was “cancelled”, so they went home and there was nothing they could do. Since you can track your driver’s progress, I can tell you that they NEVER got CLOSE to the restaurant ... ever. I called Umberto to explain and apologize for the waste of not only food, but labor on the part of his staff. He confirmed that he was watching out for the driver, and no one pulled into their parking lot, no less ever came into the restaurant inquire about a potential order. At this point, it was too late for anyone to get to Leone's before they closed. Umberto was extremely kind, and called GrubHub on our behalf to complain about the driver and the experience, as did I. GrubHub confirmed to both Umberto and to me that no cancellation was initiated by either the restaurant or the company. I told Umberto that hopefully someone else would be able to eat the large order we placed (I am feeding a family of five), and he could not have been kinder. We agreed that the next time, it would be best order directly from Leone's, not via a third party. KUDOS to Leone's and Umberto for going above and beyond to explore what happened. I only hope it is not too long before we are able to order from them again, as I was absolutely salivating over...
Read moreLeone's Italian restaurant has some amazing food! As many who read my postings know I would love to give five star ratings to restaurants like this one. Unfortunately, I always save a star for overall wheelchair access. This restaurant can be easily accessed on the bottom portion of the establishment. However there is a steep set of steps if someone wishes to use the bathroom. Making the bathroom, in this otherwise family-friendly, BYOB, restaurant not accessible to people with disabilities.
With that said. The service is outstanding. The owners always come by your table and see how everything is going. This is a sign of a restaurant that cares about its customers and their needs. I had the homemade eggplant and linguine which was piping hot and super fresh. My wife had the shrimp scampi, which could've used a little salt but otherwise was pretty tasty. And my mother-in-law had the salmon with pasta which we took a little bite of it was also super tasty. We had some kind of coded mozzarella for an appetizer with a red sauce and that was out of this world. The double espresso was right on point especially after a long day. This was my first time visiting this place which I have missed every single time I have been on this road which is a major road. It is sort of talk back behind a strip mall and another restaurant. It is worth the trip if you want to eat authentic Italian.
The regulars seemed at ease and pretty much everyone had wine at their table which they bought in. There is handicap parking around the side of the nail and hair salon with a curb cut. Some of the cement leading up to the restaurant was cracked so we careful if you're using a walker or a...
