Best thing I can say - at least it's not ridiculously overpriced like the "BBQ" tends to be around here. Coming from Texas, this place would get laughed out of that state. Staff seemed friendly, the brisket rub was good, and the sauces were decent... and that's it. The brisket isn't anywhere near smoked through, and not tender (seems to be pressure cooked by texture and smoked for a short time after), the "pulled pork" is just a pork shoulder that has been cooked with a not so tasty rub, and it's not even shredded. The BBQ "chicken" (cannot confirm if it was pork or chicken, and that's sad) that was mistakenly placed in our order w the pork was blander than the Safeway rotisseries by a long shot. It didn't even have the skin, I'm not sure if it was actually barbecued or not. The brisket tacos were a slice of brisket, onion, pickle, sauce in a store bought tortilla. I don't even know where to start with how insulting this is to actual tacos, much less brisket tacos. The sides were subpar too. I'd rather have Kraft mac and cheese, and the slaw was pretty dry.
Did I go to the same place as these other people? Are these reviews from a review farm? This is at the bottom of my Bay Area (and all-time) BBQ list. Horn's (also overpriced & overrated), Baby Blue's, Redwood City BBQ, Smokin' Woods, Westwood (which is a bar) all had far superior BBQ. Do yourself a favor and order a brisket from anywhere in Texas on Goldbelly's site. Southside Market around Austin is not too expensive and the best I've had. And to Capelo's, you don't deserve to use the word "y'all" anywhere - please...
Read moreYou ever have something weird happen at a restaurant that overshadows the meal? Well my recent dining experience here was a bit strange, so I thought I'd share it with y'all and you can judge. It started with ordering $82.03 in food and drinks, but when I went to pay cash I only had dollar bills. I asked the person with me for the 3¢ and they didn't have it, so I half-expected the cashier to just say "Don't worry about it", but instead they asked for another dollar bill. No big deal, but when it came time to give me 97¢ change, they didn't have any pennies either and said "we'll owe you 2¢". Now that was weird.
Food was decent. Brisket was good, though I've had better elsewhere. Pulled pork was also good. Ribs and smoked chicken were mid at best. Too much cheese for my taste in the jalapeño cheese sausage. Peanut slaw was the best side, beans and creamed slaw were decent too. Whatever you do, avoid the creamed corn, that gloppy mess was horrible.
The other odd experience was after eating the main courses, I wanted to try the Key Lime Pie which had a sizable sign in front of it saying $10, but when the new cashier pressed the button it said $12.58 with tax. I said the sign says $10, how are we getting to $12.58, to which she answered "I don't know, that's what the machine says and I have to go by that". We then started an Abbott and Costello routine for a minute while going back and forth between the sign and the register. She then removed the sign and said $12.58 please.
Needless to say, I won't be back. That...
Read moreI can’t say enough about our fantastic experience with Capelo’s BBQ Catering! From start to finish, everything was top-notch. We ordered a feast that included brisket, grilled chicken, beans, peanut slaw, mixed green salad, mac and cheese, and potato salad, and every single item was a hit. The brisket was incredibly tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of smokiness, while the grilled chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The sides were equally impressive—the creamy mac and cheese, delightful potato salad, hearty beans, and the unique, refreshing peanut slaw.
