As a restaurant, Chappell's is fine. Our server was really nice and tended to all our needs. The food was a mix of good to ok, with typical bar food cooked as it should be but otherwise unremarkable, and a large variety of entrees and some intriguing daily specials. Tried the Chipotle Salmon from the regular menu, and the fish was cooked just right but the aioli made it too greasy and the additional toppings were very mild. No regrets, but I'd modify or change my order next time. The drinks were fine. As a place, packed with sports history and somewhat of a historic landmark in its own right, Chappell's was probably quite an attraction in its hay day. Visiting recently on a Saturday evening, this expansive labyrinth of space felt like it was yearning for crowds of visitors and regulars to arrive, but instead it was just a handful of us. There's plenty of room for big groups, and it connects to a covered outdoor corridor too. I enjoyed wandering around (wasn't too difficult/awkward for me to poke around since there weren't many guests at the time) looking at all the sports photos and memorabilia from across KC, the Midwest, and the nation, spotlighting a mix of pro, college, high school, etc. Even found a couple pennants from my own alma mater! On an equally cheeky and depressing note, there was a ton of women's athletic memorabilia … in the women's restroom (would have been cool to see it displayed more prominently in the main areas for all to see). Overall Chappell's has it's own blast-from-the-past charm, and I hope the restaurant gets to enjoy a bustling revival some day.

First, the food: Their burgers are delicious! You can get them with a normal bun, or a French muffin bun, which is actually pretty good. I also partook in the Chefs special of the day which happened to be a burrito, which I am a big fan of. It doesn't taste Mexican tho, delicious in its own right, just not Mexican. Speaking of specials, they have one for every day, which just decreases the price of said item. Good deals. Second, the Service: The servers are very kind and wholesome, not to mention Shannon, who seems to have the memory of an elephant, that is to say, very good. She takes orders without needing to right them down! Absolutely insane. Maybe I just have a very poor memory... Third, the atmosphere: One of the most impressive aspects of this place, is the amount of sports memorabilia they have, goodness gracious there is a lot. It's also a big place, so that just adds to it. Very cool place regardless of the memorabilia, almost reminds me of a lodge on the inside. When its cold they have a fire going. So comfy.

This place is literally the worst. Went in earlier today to surprise my boyfriend with a good lunch with tons of sports memorabilia and a good college football game. Boy was I in for a surprise. First of all it took the woman at least 20 minutes to come back and take our order, which would have been perfectly acceptable if they had been busy, but they were the exact opposite of that. Secondly when we did get our food, my boyfriend had ordered a medium rare steak, which when he cut into was completely well done. I ordered a philly cheese steak, which was in fact not even close to being a philly cheese. It was thickly cut roast beef which some rubbery onions and peppers being held together by cheese that seemed more like puddy than actual cheese. I also asked no mushrooms be put on my sandwich and it was literally covered in them. Not that we could ever find our waitress to ask her to change anything about our meals, she never showed up once until the very last second. So we ate what parts of the food we could i.e the fries and waited for our check to arrive. And waited, and waited and waited. Finally after 15 minutes of just sitting there I got a busy boy to go find our waitress and after several more long minutes she came back with a check. It took us longer to pay and get out then it took us to eat and that's a serious problem. I also know it took this long because they're televisions weren't playing the college game we went to see, in fact they weren't playing anything because the picture was squared the entire time and no one bothered to do anything about it. The biggest problem I have however was the look the waitress gave me when she saw I did not leave her a tip. I didn't tip her because she didn't do anything, and I don't have to tip if the service was horrendous and believe me it was. It was literally the worst experience in dining out I've ever had and I will never EVER return to this place. Biggest waste of forty dollars ever and I've never been more disappointed and angry at the customer service(or the lack thereof) in my entire life. What a great place indeed...that is if you like being miserable and not watching sports at...

Was hungry for their London broil. Guess what they are under new management. The menu has drastically changed. They are now an upscale sports bar. Which to me means high prices small portions. Since the London broil is gone figured I would get a burger. They had good burgers. The waitress told us they have new fries now and they are awesome. They only have 1 burger now with caramelized onions couple different cheeses and several other things that did not sound appetizing at all for only $13. Yes the only burger on the menu at the sports bar is $13. I asked if I could get just a plan burger. The waitress said yes. Just take off the things you don't want. Asked if it was still $13 if plan. Waitress didn't know and didn't find out. So I ordered the tenderloin sandwich. Pat ordered Chicken tenders. I got my sandwich and the tenderloin was way smaller than the bun. The new fries were tasteless and limp. No way an improvement over the seasoned fries they had before. Took a bit out of my tenderloin and the next thing I know is there are nats all over my food. Told the waitress and she said they could make me a fresh tenderloin. Mind you by this time we had been sitting there waiting for our food for over 30 to 45 minutes. And they were not busy at all. After all the nats told waitress I lost my appetite. She took our food away along with the $20 groupon. Ended up leaving hungry and out $20 for food that was riddled with nats. New management and new menu turn into disaster for what was as good sports bar. Try if you like but be ready for expensive food that is...
