Griddle cakes has a variety of tasty breakfast and lunch offerings. I was here for the Eggs Benedict only. The 3 star review was for the eggs Benedict not the cakes, waffles or any other breakfast items. The waitress, Alicia was very cordial and helpful. She kept the coffee refills coming. I will describe Griddlecakes as specializing in pancakes and waffles with a variety of breakfast and lunch items. You can see behind the front counter where they create their cakes and waffles. I have a "top ten" list for Benedicts and after my visit I was not able to add these "Bennys" to my "top ten list" My rating is based on 3 weights : 70% = taste 20% = presentation 10% = price #1 - taste: they have an option of hash browns or breakfast potatoes . I chose hash browns. I asked for easy/light poached eggs and was presented with 1 perfectly poached egg and 1 hard. As you can see in the photo below the egg on the right is poached hard . Alicia got me a proper one with hollandaise sauce right away. The Hollandaise sauce was from a mix but was tasty. The reason I review Eggs Benedict is because of the difference in the flavor of the Hollandaise sauce and how everything is presented on the plate. Their decent amount of hash browns were shredded and cooked perfectly. #2 -presentation : The presentation was good. The hash browns although cooked well, they and the eggs could be a little more presentable. #3-price: $14.99 is the new norm for Benedicts with hash browns. Coffee for $3.50 a cup is on the high side. In my opinion these are some suggestions that would bring this to a 4 or 5 star review. Although this was made as a traditional eggs benedict. I would suggest giving an option of grilled ham or Canadian bacon. Also the English muffins should be toasted on a griddle. Make the eggs, hollandaise sauce and the hash browns look appetizing on the plate. If you take pride in how appetizing it looks the Taste will take care of the rest. This is my opinion, I recommend you give them a try and see what you think.

Took a party of 5 to Griddlecakes at 11am. The place was packed and we had to wait for about 15 minutes to be seated. Once seated, we had to wait for an additional 20 minutes to even get a drink order started. There was one waitress for a full dining room, which kind of is an excuse, but people who came in after us were served before us, so I think poor table management and organization is the real issue. When we finally ordered, we waited another 20 minutes for our food to arrive, and in between, the drinks we requested (water, orange juice, and soda) came out sporadically. At one point, we were waiting on a 4th water and they brought him an orange juice instead, which wasn't a big deal because the OJ was good, but he'd been waiting 15 minutes for a water and still ended up wrong. When the food came out, it was delicious. The skillets were the perfect amount of food. The pancakes were ridiculously large. We all ended up splitting a short stack because it was too much for one person. We all went with biscuits and gravy as our sides and those came out sporadically as well. We never even got one of them, but, again there was already too much food so it didn't ultimately matter. We never got a single refill the whole meal. Maybe don't come when it's busy. Otherwise it's delicious.

The place only had about 5 tables with people. At them, and we had to wait about eight minutes to get any kind of a drink order. Next to took another 5 minutes to get our order taken. 25 minutes our order was delivered. We ordered 2 omelets. I had home fries and toast. My dad had fruit and toast. He did not get fruit. He got home fries we had to ask for the fruit after. As far as it being "omelet"......not at all! It was basically scrambled eggs and they melted the cheese on top and the microwave which ran all over the plate. Then they put the home fries on top of the melted cheese beside the omelet/scrambled eggs. The home fries had absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. It tasted as if they had put them in the fryer with the oil and fried them. They were bland and greasy. The photo I posted is of my dad's omelet. He ate half of it, but stated it was the worst omelette he ever had.....and covered the other half up with his mangled. Toast that you can see is smushed as though it was ruined in the bag before they even toasted it and served it. And if that bread was "toasted".... that's news to me... Maybe they are good with pancakes, but they should take the egg dishes off the menu. Priced WAYYYY too high.

On Saturday August 6, 2022, my fiancĂŠ and I walked into the Decatur Griddlecakes around 11:00 am. We were promptly seated and proceeded to look through the menu. Shortly after the same gentleman who seated us, takes our drink order and returned about 4 minutes later with our drinks. Roughly about 11:10, our waitress (who I later found out name was Chelsea came and took our order. Once the order had been taken, we waited patiently and became deep in conversation so much to where we begin to notice all the people who had entered the establishment prior to us had all left and new patrons were starting to come in.

At this time I take a glance at my watched and noticed it was 12:12pm and we had not received our food and no one came to check on us regarding drinks (refills). At 12:20pm we begin noticing just about every table that had entered after us, started receiving their food. Still by this time no one has said anything to us and with our patience running thin, at 12:30 pm, after noticing the entire restaurant had their food except us, my fiancĂŠ walks up to the counter and waited a few moments before he was even noticed and inquired about our food. A gentleman (who we later learned was the manager named Francisco) proceeds to tell my fiancĂŠ that our food was coming. After noticing the exchange that my fiancĂŠ was having with Francisco and it not appearing to be a pleasant one, I then proceeded to stand up and walk towards the counter to see what was going on and Francisco tell us that our waiter forgot to put our order in and our food was just now being prepared. We stood there in complete disbelief.

After an hour of waiting for our food , we were told we were forgotten. My fiancĂŠ requested to speak to Chelsea our waitress, to see what happened. She comes from the back with oranges in hand and pretty much admits to forgetting our order. She stated, she had been in the back squeezing oranges and never put our order in.

Not one apology offered from any staff member. No one showed empathy, no sympathy or anything was provided to us as the consumer. We had just discovered what we thought was a gem in our backyard and was very elated to try the food. Our very first time here, we were forgotten! We had to leave Griddlecakes establishment with very empty stomachs and bruised hearts. To be told that we had been forgotten has been bothering my fiancĂŠ and I all week which has prompted me to write this review with hopes to prevent others from experiencing the same treatment...

Actual Rating 2.8⭐️

This is my 1st time at this restaurant. My son and daughter-n-law thought that it might be an interesting place to go.

Atmosphere 3⭐️: The restaurant has a nice setting. Nothing really stood out positively or negatively about the place

Cleanliness: 3⭐️ the restaurant is decently clean. The bathroom was ok.

Service: 3.5⭐️ Our server was attentive and of took care of things. Not overly friendly but not a grouch either. The same can be said for any one else who may have come to the table to help clear dishes or pour water and coffee.

Food Quality & Taste: 2.5⭐️ My son and I both ordered skillets. Mine was ok. I had a side of biscuit with gravy. Which was good. But nothing was super fantastic. My son and daughter in law said their food was ok. My daughter in law asked to substitute her toast for a pancake. They wouldn’t which is fine. She said if a single pancake is $4.99 and she’ll hold the toast. My daughter in law said ok I thought she should still bring the toast. The pancake was large and high but it was one of the worst pancakes I have ever had. A pancake is supposed to be light, airy, fluffy. This was none of those. It was dense and more bread-like. With a name like Griddlecakes I would think it would be great a pancakes. Everyone at our table agreed that the pancake wasn’t good.

Price/value: 2⭐️ Price after tax and tip was about $72…for 3 people…for breakfast.

Summary: Now, post-pandemic I don’t get sticker shock anymore. Everything is just so much more expensive. But this place isn’t worth the money paid. If a restaurant is going to price themselves at this price point, make the food amazing....
