This was my first time ever eating from any Habit. In general, the location was great. Clean and friendly staff. I was able to get a meal for free, during an early preview promotion.
I ordered the BBQ Bacon burger. I got the burger that comes with everything on it. What I find interesting with The Habit, is that the Charburger prices you see don't include cheese. Only 2 special burgers come with cheese. So, expect to round up the price of your burger or combo meal.
Even with the added meat from the bacon, somehow the lettuce was really overpowering. That's all I was tasting the whole burger. I don't want to say they didn't properly season the patty, but it's possible. I honestly think they just put way too much shredded lettuce. I would recommend to them cut the lettuce amount in half or order it with no lettuce.
Update: I got the same BBQ Bacon burger, without lettuce this time. Total difference. I've tried their other burgers with lettuce and somehow they're all overpowered by it. This is the only burger chain I've ever had where the lettuce is overpowering.
As for the fries, take a look at the picture. One is well done (extra crispy) and the other isn't. Ordering it well done definitely gave it the perfect crunch and taste. I could've ate all the well done fries with no ketchup. They weren't as good in normal condition. So like In-N-Out, you need to order the fries well done.
I'm not an In-N-Out person (maybe 3 times a year), but I would probably go there instead of The Habit. What brought me to The Habit, was that it was flame grilled. I just didn't taste it with my burger. Burger King has a much more pronounced flame grilled taste. So, I see no reason to pay an extra $1.50 vs In-N-Out.
Because we were limited to Charburger, fries and drink, I'll be leaving this review as neutral. I can't really say if I'll give a Charburger another chance. Doesn't really seem worth the higher price, especially if I'll be disappointed again. Though I do have some interest in trying their tempura green beans.
Wait time here with an empty drive-thru and hardly customers in the dining room, it takes 10 minutes to get a burger.
Update: I went to get their normal Charburger. It was great. I don't know if it was because I removed the lettuce this time or because they properly seasoned it. But It was good. I wish they would contain the cheese to the burger though, instead of mostly being on the paper. The fried green beans were a downer though.
One issue I have with this location is... They just opened, yet they already increased the prices. Idk who they're going for, customer wise, with the high prices.
Update #2: Got some onion rings and sweet potato fries. Onion rings weren't that bad. The fries tasted like nothing. They were also cold. Not even a tiny taste of sweetness, like a sweet potato should. For this location, sides aren't it's strong...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was craving the yummy Santa Barbara Char after a long day at work, I so decided to drive out of my way to this Habit (was the closest). I found it strange that it was empty and not a single car in line, but considered myself lucky at this point!!! I pulled up to the window, paid for my meal and waited.. and waited⦠and waited some more! I was thinking ā why is it taking so long, no one is hereā then I just looked at the bright side that at least it would be fresh. I noticed a young lady throwing some grayish brown rubbery looking meat (Iām guessing) onto what I assumed to be the grill. Against my better judgment, I ignored the glaring sign and nagging inner voice to just cancel my order and drive quickly away. I was too committed, I already invested 10+ minutes and over 10 miles. I finally get my food and drive off. After about 5 mins and a few fries, I could no longer wait to get home to sink my teeth into one of my favorite burgers. I took a bite and almost immediately realized the texture was off. I took another bite and it was very soggy! I turned on the light in my truck and was shocked to see this under cooked poor excuse for a $9 burger patty staring back at me. How could they not cook it completely when no one was there and I waited over 10 minutes? What were they doing? The patty isnāt even thick!! I then put the pieces together and realized why there was no one there in the drive thru. I was disgusted and turned the truck around to go back and let the manager see what they were serving. I walked up to the counter and asked for the manager. She walked right up ( completely annoyed ) and just picked it up and threw it in the trash. No questions asked! Like this is the norm.. I realized that she was the person I mentioned earlier that was struggling to toss the grayish meat on the grill. She came from that area and was still wearing what appeared to be the same gloves. She dug into the cash register and gave me a refund. Iām sure the money she handed to me is contaminated with raw meat residue because she did NOT change or remove her gloves. I told her I really hope I donāt get sick. She just looked past me⦠She handed me the money, no apology, no explanation. She might as well have told me to go f$&@ myself. I asked for a business card for the corporate office and she said I can Google the info. Itās online.
I think she may have single handily broke this #Habit of mine!...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHabit burger, where does it fall on the burger spectrum. Santa Barbara burger, sweet potato fries, double char, regular fries, $25 for both. No drinks included. I don't drink soda anyways, but that is a bit high. For quality and taste, way, way better than McDonald's or Burger King, somewhat better than wendys, a bit better than Carl's jrs fancier line and priced about the same, better than rallys, checkers, and in and out. Not as good as 5 guys. When you factor in price per item and balance it out, it's about on par with the value dynamic scale. The One Burger chain that really beats the value dynamic scale is in and out when you consider the food quality versus price but the problem at In-N-Out is that there's just too many people it's always so full. So you end up spending a lot of time and if you value your time, it starts becoming a worse bargain. Habit Burger also falls into that problem. They are pretty slow. When I just went there right now it was because in and out burger had a 50 car backup. I was willing to pay a little bit more for slightly higher quality food and hopefully a shorter wait time. It ended up being that the food quality was higher but the wait time was actually about the same as if I would have went to in and out even considering the line. I'm not sure how it took that long to make two burgers and fries when there was absolutely nobody in the restaurant. So I factor that into the rating a little bit. Overall I would say that it is a decent place to add to your burger line up if you like to try different places. One nice thing is they also have a few healthier options if you want to break it up a little bit. I can't really praise or complain about them too much so I give them a solid four which is...
