What a disappointment! We were regulars at this place because we really liked it, however we received a nasty treatment from the owner tonight and we wanted to share with people so many are aware. My husband and I ordered 2 types of empanadas for appetizers and 1 of them tasted unusually dry, so we obviously told the waiter about it and kindly requested to please send it back. Unbeknown to us, the waiter went and communicate this to the owner, and the owner, instead of just saying something like send it back and make them a new one, she approached our table in the middle of our meal, stood there awkwardly and started questioning us and asking what was our problem! why and how was it that we didn’t like the empanada, and how is this possible !!? ..At this point if the reader cannot fathom the thought, that makes 2 of us; to say the word surreal is an understatement, for a restaurant owner to come to the table and question the customer in such manner over such a simple thing?, however we kindly explained the reasons why we didn’t like it, and even provided an example in how the week prior was cooked perfectly and this time it just wasn’t...So by now one would think the owner would at least acknowledge our experience and explanation and offer to bring us another empanada, right ? Nope…She kept going at it, fuzzing and questioning “but How, Why, How, Why” over and over again !!!! I was flabbergasted ..My husband on the other hand, handled the situation very graciously in trying to appease this specimen, told her we didn’t want any problems, that anyone can make a mistake in the kitchen and that’s ok, etc...She then finally asked if we wanted a new empanada and we simply said yes. We are still in shock by the ordeal this woman put us through , the luck of judgement and poor customer care over a $9 empanada! Which she of course ended up charging us for and we gladly paid as we didn’t expect anything else from such low class individual..Unprecedented. So if you were thinking in going to La matera, think again , because if for some reason you are not content and need to send something back to the kitchen, you will have to deal and provide and explanation to the owner first. From now on we are sticking to Fuego or Abale when we are in the mood for kosher meat.* Please note this review is not intended as a constructive criticism, but rather as an advise to the public and a direct complain regarding the absurd and disrespectful treatment we received from the owner while attempting to have a peaceful and enjoyable dinner at her...
Read moreSo, for my wife's birthday we decided to check out La Matera, an Argentinian Fusion Steakhouse in North Miami Beach, and wow, talk about a fusion! The ambiance was both quiet and intimate, with soft Argentinian tunes creating a great vibe. But let me tell you, the birthday celebration brought in the fun and energetic twist that made the night unforgettable.
We kicked off with an amazing trio of empanadas – an explosion of Latin and Mediterranean flavors, for starters. For mains we chose the Bif Malbec and Salmon La Matera, and we kicked the plates clean. The salmon was flavorful and flaky, and the sauce didn't overpower; it was just right. The Malbec reduction sauce on the steak was subtly sweet and tangy, adding a delightful kick to the dish.
The staff, being awesome as ever, nailed the wine pairings, adding that perfect compliment to our choices.
Now, the birthday surprise was the highlight. Picture this – a quiet, intimate setting, and suddenly the staff pops up with funny hats, drums, and singing. The birthday dessert, with a sparkler in the middle, turned the romantic evening into a lively celebration.
And oh, let me not forget about the dessert! We indulged in the flavor-packed sweet and savory Tres Leches (dairy-free) cake with a toasted meringue top. It was like a party in our mouths – absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to our fantastic meal.
What's even better? La Matera doesn't break the bank. For a kosher steakhouse, the prices are just right, making the whole experience a perfect fusion.
If you're after a place that blends quiet romance with a fun and friendly vibe, I highly recommend La Matera for a tasty, unique, and...
Read moreArgentinian empanadas come fried not baked, the meat filling is just a sloppy Joe filling, so that’s a big fail considering Argentinian empanadas are the best. They have birria tacos on the menu, It’s a kosher restaurant so it’s going to be very overpriced and have a variety of dishes that have nothing to do with the style of food that they claim to authentically serve. The big “give away” in the mentality and business philosophy of who ever is running the show, is the pitiful, yet extremely over priced drink menu. Carona $9, modelo $9, Heineken $9 and so on…. Things are just expensive for the sake of it. Bottom tier kosher wines being brought out as if they are vintages. I can’t really blame the restaurant for following industry trends, we as a people need to stop accepting this or we will always live is galus.
I ordered a medium rare 18oz rib eye which came extremely rare and with gristle. It was also missing the cap which seemed to have been chopped off for the outer cap cut they use on the menu. It’s always the same stories with these places. The French fries are also the breaded ones which suck salty gonads. Service was friendly and marginal, but at the end of the day these prices are comparable to a proper high end steakhouse and it certainly is not. I say again our people don’t seem to know the difference even if it was fondling there significant other before...
