Walked out angry from a wine tasting. I love wine tasting with friends and was excited to taste some local wines, but this was the worst experience my husband and I have ever had at a tasting. After we were seated, the man serving explained the pricing, $10 to taste 4 wines. We agreed and, when he asked, we responded that we like Merlots and Tempranillos. The first wine he poured was an Italian wine, it was very tanniny and left a bad aftertaste on the tongue. We pushed the glasses forward so he would know we were not going to drink more and politely said it’s not for us, let’s try the next one. He poured some of the Italian wine in a glass for himself, took a sip and declared “That’s an excellent wine”. We said that may be so, but it’s not for us. He poured a Cab next, which we liked more than the first wine, but not our style. We drank a bit more of that one, but said it’s not our taste…in hopes he would use that info to offer us something we really liked. We often buy a case if we find a wine we love at a tasting. Instead, he acted offended and gave a little speech, explaining the value of stronger, Italian wines over sweeter, “beginner” Spanish ones. Just as a note, we have tasted and purchased many wonderful Italian wines in the past. These were just not what we like. By that point we were very annoyed and just wanted to leave. We left payment for the tasting on the counter and walked out. I was so angry …it colored the day and the trip negatively. We have been servers, we understand how hard it is and that folks can have a bad day. This felt like someone unused to someone disagreeing with him, even if politely. Don’t let someone tell you what you like, stick to your guns politely and if pressured or intimidated and mocked as we were, walk out...
Read moreAs a lover of wine I would have loved a similar experience to what some of the four and five star review had. Sadly this wasn't the case.
We consider ourselves pretty tolerant people and accept that not everyone had the same experiences and views.
However, "southern hospitality" seems like a hit or miss in Myrtle Beach.
We are cautious people who still wear masks in public settings and upon entering this shop we are greeted by a bartender who didn't greet us politely. Instead he scoffed rolled his eyes and said "are you two here to rob the place?"
It immediately made things incredibly uncomfortable. I chucked in awkwardness before we about faced and walked out the door.
Again. We understand not everyone thinks the way we do. We accept that fact, but for us our safety is a top priority especially when traveling and visiting a new place. We never expect anyone to put a mask on, even if they ask us if we prefer it.
Perhaps this shop was "joking" even though it certainly didn't feel that way, but in Myrtle Beach we encountered a large number of folks who insisted on reacting, just like this shop did, whenever they saw us with our masks up.
I'm sure this shop has good wine, but a little courtesy can go a long way, especially in a "tourist area" where diversity is...
Read moreHaving traveled the country doing wine tastings, I was surprised that we were poured a dribble of a tasting without giving us the tasting prices. After we drank one I noticed the pricings on a board that was on the back side of the bar and inquired. 6 tastings for 15$ is a ripoff, or 4 for 12. That is double than we ever paid before. Reading the reviews and also finding their wines are grossly overpriced I'm sure this is a sales technique. I see the owner defending this by letting his customers know that the server was a veteran and thanked them for the insult. I had no problem paying for the two tasting we did and leaving. Just because this was at barefoot landing, don't be deceived thinking it goes with the territory. We went down a couple shops and got 12 tastings each for 10$. Then drove down the street to Dupins and got cheese, crackers,11 tastings and a full glass with entertainment for 15$. I have no problem businesses making a dollar, but what they do here is obviously crooked. And my advise to the owner is to quit smearing our veterans on your businesses behalf, I'm sure they would've...
