McDonald’s – North Ridgeville, OH: A Tragedy Outside the Jurisdiction of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I knew I was no longer under the protective hand of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The faded lines and chaotic layout would never pass muster under 67 Pa. Code § 441.3, which governs driveway access and parking standards across the Commonwealth. At Snow Shoe on I-80 — a true sanctuary of PennDOT design — the flow of traffic is smooth, disciplined, and bordered by curbs that haven’t crumbled since the Rendell administration.
Inside, the restrooms stood as a grim monument to what happens when facilities aren’t held to 28 Pa. Code § 27.60, which ensures sanitary conditions in public eating establishments. At Snow Shoe, the Department of Health inspects regularly; you’ll find working sinks, stocked soap, and paper towels folded like they were blessed by a state chaplain. North Ridgeville? One sink was taped shut, and the hand dryer emitted the faint warmth of a dying flashlight. No inspection log, no pride, and certainly no Commonwealth-level hygiene.
The food? Legally edible, but spiritually lacking. My burger arrived lukewarm and my fries limp — a clear departure from 37 Pa. Code § 27.151, which governs food handling practices in the Keystone State. Snow Shoe’s McDonald’s operates under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and follows protocols backed by Act 70 of 1993, ensuring quality and consistency. In contrast, North Ridgeville’s food was taxed (taxed!), in a flagrant violation of what I’ve come to expect under 72 P.S. § 7204(29), which exempts most takeout food from sales tax in Pennsylvania.
The drive-thru lane lacked order, with impatient vehicles cutting one another off in ways that would trigger immediate enforcement under Title 75 § 3301, Pennsylvania’s vehicle code on orderly flow of traffic. At Snow Shoe, courtesy reigns — a product not just of culture, but of enforceable law. In North Ridgeville, I feared for my side mirrors. I longed for the flashing lights of a PSP cruiser or even the steady glare of a Turnpike maintenance supervisor.
In summary, this McDonald’s exists, but only barely. It is a fast-food outpost untethered from the righteous infrastructure, sanitary codes, and fiscal fairness that define the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. If you must stop here, eat quickly and remember better days — days spent under the regulatory shelter of Harrisburg, where even a McChicken is served with dignity and...
Read moreWhen I ordered my food at drive through she asked me was everything correct on screen and I said yes. She then asked me to pull up and to wait for the rest of my food. When she promptly came out and realized I didn't have the right food she said no problem I'll be right back, came back out asked me for my receipt , I didn't have it told 1st window keep the pennies and drove to 2nd window however I should of got the receipt but didn't and explained to worker, she said ok ill be right back then the manager came out to my car and asked what did I order what part of the order still needed..the manager went inside got all items to complete order...brought my correct order out to car and explained to me what happened, when I made the order in the beginning and was asked is your order correct I said yes but in actuality it was missing a meal but I didn't realize it and not knowing she didn't hear all of order and I said yes it was correct started ALL THE CONFUSION, I WAS WRONG IT WAS MY MISTAKE, the manager figured out I didn't order or pay for the missing meal however the manager said don't worry about it when I offered to pay for the missing meal she brought out to my car...I said it was mistake, appaulogized, and I insisted to pay and she said no the meal is on the house I'm just glad she figured it out, 5 trips later out to my car back n fourth and it was all my mistake and she was so nice so patient and professional. She took charge and handled it. Most of she didn't make me feel stupid and made me feel better about the big misunderstanding on my part. Plus giving me a free meal and telling me to have a great day and come back again, made me feel really good and not embarrassed...
Read moreI don’t usually leave reviews, but after nearly 10 years of attending this McDonald’s and a few recent years of seeing the amazing and efficient staff, I have felt obligated to leave a review.
Tim, one of the managers at this location, is amazing. I have seen him here in the early morning, never standing still. I have seen him during the lunch rush, manning both windows and tag teaming the counter. I have seen him super late at night, where he was one of 2-3 people there, still churning out orders (correctly). There have been multiple occasions where I see him teach/train in real work experiences. I once witnessed a customer berating a counter worker for their drinks being mediums and not larges. You could tell the counter worker was attempting to remedy the situation but the customer just wouldn’t let up. Tim came over and assisted, treated the customer with respect (even though it wasn’t deserved) and then after the customer left, took the time to talk to the employee and make sure they were good and even showed them a good technique on handling similar situations.
Very rarely has my order taken an extended amount of time but when it does, Tim AND the other employees at this location have kept good communication. Very rarely has my order been incorrect, but when it is, it is handled immediately, once again, with open communication.
This is a great location and...
