ATTENTION PLEASE READ!! HORRIBLE RACIST EXPERIENCE!!! This was my second visit to this establishment and it will be my LAST!! Me and my daughter went in to purchase 2 gyro orders, the initial contact with the cashier was rude as he acted extremely impatient and annoyed with taking our orders to begin with, and that I asked for our onions to be grilled. As they started to make the order, I noticed 2 pitas already sitting on the counter, they were open and uncovered, you could tell they had been sitting there for a while, they did not look appetizing, you could visibly see the bugs that were landing on the pitas from them being cold, old, and uncovered. I imagine they were possibly from a previous order, I'm not sure. But the cook put 2 new pitas on the grill so I assumed they were using new the ones for our order, you would think that was the reason for making the new ones. But as they went to make the gyros, I noticed they hovered over our order to block our view, turns out they picked up the old pitas to use for our order, to confirm I leaned in and looked in the other corner only to see that he set the new pitas off to the side hoping it was out of my view. I proceeded to ask, are you using the old pitas we seen laying on the open counter? He shrugged his shoulder and admitted yes, so I said we don't want those why wouldn't you use the new pitas, knowing that those pitas are really old. He started to raise his voice and yell at me in front of my daughter. I was persistent in not accepting the order, so after they realized i wouldn't, he had the other cook, literally THROW the new pitas at him to use for our order!! YES, HE ACTUALLY THREW THEM!! I told him there was no need to be so upset because I wanted fresh food, he responded with yelling and called the manager over, I thought that the manager would be more understanding of the issue, but instead this is where I realized it wasn't about the old pitas at all, it was about him not wanting an African American woman in his establishment, because his immediate words were WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE, I DON'T YOU IN MY PLACE, PLEASE DON'T EVER COME BACK, I DON'T WANT YOUR KIND OF MONEY!! I told him he NEVER has to worry about me coming back!! I wasn't unruly, mean, or loud, in the end I did tell him that I will definitely voice my experience. He started to head towards me from behind the counter, and got very close while pointing in my face, to the point I had to tell him to please step back out of my face. I proceeded to leave and made sure I got pictures of this place!! I know this is a long review but it needs to be heard and seen!! There's more to be said about the way they treated us, but too much to put on here. Initially thought it was just because it was a busy time, but once the manager shared how he felt, I knew it was deeper!! I know that some will keep patronizing this place because of the sad world we live in, but I DEEPLY hope that the "Kind of money he doesn't want there" chooses not to spend there!! IF I COULD GIVE NO...
Read moreDo not go here!! I have never written a review before but I do not want anyone else to experience what I had to go through. The owner and staff are very rude and disrespectful people. I order their fried chicken breast sandwich, but before I order I ask the cashier a question. I asked him was it a chicken breast or a chicken patty. He insure me that is was a breast. When I received my meal it was a patty, I went to talk with the cashier about the sandwich not being a breast. After several back and forth, I asked him to just make me another meal and I would pay the different. He agree. He told me to throw my meal away, in which I did. When I came back to the register, he charge me full paid for the other meal. When I asked him why would he charge me full price and also tell me to throw my other meal away, he respond by telling me it my problem. I asked to speak with his manager and his manager, which is the store owner, was just as rude as his employee. Telling me that it is my problem and that he will not refund me my money back, then telling to leave his restaurant. I was not disrespectful to him or his staff so yes, I do believe because I am a black man that is why they was re-acting in such a manner. I had to call my credit company to...
Read moreMUNSTER GYROS owned by a local family has the Best Gyros by far in NW Indiana. Call in your order and it's always ready in "10 minutes", as we have so pleasantly and traditionally been told over the phone since they opened. I'm guessing its been 20 years plus. A must is the freshly sliced gyros with grilled onions and tzatziki sauce, but so tempting is a side of ribs and a dipped beef sandwich. My personally history goes back 60 years visiting that same building at the corner of Ridgeway and Calumet. An elderly Mrs. Reynolds ran a store front ice cream shop at the same location at the corner of Ridgeway and Calumet. Dairy Queens or Baskin Robbins didn't exist yet. This elderly entrepreneur woman hired locals with bicycles to go all around the neighborhoods with a box of dry ice ice cream bars and popsicles. Families were huge back then..most houses had 5 or 6 kids, so hearing that bell ringing coming down Kooy Drive was a Big Deal! IF ONLY MUNSTER GYROS HAD BIKES WITH BELLS WE'd ALL BE IN HEAVEN.
