Really was not planning on writing a review but after seeing 4 stars, I had to say something. Yes portions are big, and for a brunch place, that is somewhat rare so props to Jaspers. Also has good variety of food so also another thumbs up. Jaspers has a good atmosphere so good job on that too. Unfortunately, those two are the only positives to Jaspers. Actually terrible pancakes. They always taste flowery and not fluffy enough. Bad hash browns. It's bland and cookie cutter. Tastes store bought. Can't say the same for the soup because the soup is definitely store bought and not made in house. Also the fries, no doubt, are also store bought. The drink menu feels throw at the last second because the smoothies are bland and lacking fresh fruit. What also is bland is most of their omlettes. A lot of the dishes are medicore. I get a sense that Jaspers does not care about their food. I know its a busy restaurant and has a lot of variable costs but why are you not making half the menu? It's a restaurant so there's an implication that the restaurant is serving...
Read moreThis is the 4th Ownership of Jaspers in 25 years I have lived in Glenview. The original owner did some updating, then I think went out of business in crash of 2008/2009. Couple more people tried to make it go again, no luck.
Think, 2013/2014 Jasper's reopened with simple, fresh, bright new decor. Menu is Breakfast & Lunch. Lighter fare, I think darn near everything is from scratch...fresh - could be some frozen somethings...but I don't think so. Preparation is very consistent, and delivery fast...I do not think food has ever arrived cold. Wait staff are very pleasant, often downright cheerful.
I live for if not "on" breakfast. Jasper's chefs do a baked omelette with choice of cheese, sauteed mushrooms and sliced avocado that is to die for. They offer eggs anyway you like, skillets with or without meat, poached, basted, etc. Fruit is fresh, and varietal pancake, crepes & waffle concoctions.
Sorry, forgot to double-check Hours before I started this review. Please Google. To confirm, but I think it is SUN M T W TH F SAT 6:00 AM...
Read moreI ordered a tuna melt and the tuna was cold and the cheese hardly melted. I asked the waitress if they could cook it longer. She came back handed me a menu and told me to pick something else out cause they wouldn’t cook it again. I asked to speak to the manager. He came over without a mask (several waitresses had their mask off their face and hanging on their necks but the manager didn’t have one on all. He said that’s the way they always cook it. I said I’ve ordered the tuna melt here dozens of times and that the tuna was cold. He asked if I wanted something else cause they wouldn’t cook it again. Bizarre but not willing to argue about it. He walked away angry which I found interesting cause I was so nice about it. The waitress also spilled cream all over my sister. It went inside of her pant leg to her boot. She apologized but forgot the box, hot sauce, ice tea and twice I had to ask for utensils. I will no longer eat there. Again why weren’t they all...
