Yesterday I visited Tanzenwald for about the fourth time. First, the highlights from yesterday's trip. My wife is gluten free and vegetarian. They unfortunately do not have any alcohol beverages that are safe for people with Celiac disease, but they have a few N/A options. But they are good at preparing their food safely, and she has never had any cross contamination there. Food is fried separately.
Brussel Sprouts are delicious, and we could eat them all day!
The issue that we had yesterday was that my wife ordered a build your own burger and got the impossible patty. When our meals came her burger definitely was meat. We immediately confirmed with the waitress that it was the impossible burger, and she said, "yeah I think so". Which didn't allude confidence. My son and I both tried it and confirmed it was meat. After a bit of pushing our waitress brought it back to check, and she said no one in the kitchen knew if it was meat or the impossible patty! They re-made it for her, and the second burger was clearly an impossible patty (because it is obvious). There was not any apology for the mistake, and we were still charged full price.
Mistakes happen but my concerns here were: the waitress seemed to question our obvious observation this order was wrong, the kitchen can't tell the difference between an impossible patty and real meat, and that we were still charged for the burger even though my wife had to eat 20 minutes later than the rest of the party (on her birthday).
Being new to the neighborhood we were hopeful this could be a good eating out option for our family. But this experience certainly will make us hesitate to go back any time soon or recommend...
Read moreI've waited a few years to write this review, because the first time I went to Tanzenwald, I walked in and was completely ignored. It was nearly empty and the beertender looked right at me and said nothing. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes and no one said hello or took my order, so I left. I really wasn't happy after that. I was a traveler at the time and didn't live in Northfield. When we moved to Northfield, I didn't have positive feelings because of that experience and didn't want to visit. I'm somewhat happy I gave them another try. I think they have delicious food, and I like that they will have new menus on occasion. I like that you can buy kegs from them through Firehouse. It's nice to have local beer for a get together. I think the beer is just "okay." It's not my favorite and I don't think they get as experimental or fun as they do with their food menu. My first experience must have been an anomaly because I've found the staff to be pretty attentive and friendly in all subsequent visits. The bathroom has an area to change baby diapers which I've found nearly impossible to find at all the places we dine. I appreciate access for parents so we can take our baby with us and still enjoy a beer and dinner. Dog friendly patios are great--we also love to be able to bring our dogs with us. The last improvement is that I wish they had just a few more NA options. When I'm pregnant I still like to go out to eat with my family and feel like an adult and have options other than water or pop. I know this is a stretch at a brewery since the main point of going is to have a beer, but I always think there are people who would...
Read moreJust found this amazing place today. Daughter had a event at St. Olafs, so we were about the town exploring. Sure glad we did. I will definitely be making the trip again just to enjoy this place. Were do I start? We walked into a beautiful place. Decor was cool and fresh, employees were smiling and super nice. We sat down and were welcomed immediately, given our menus which included the beer and food. There were so many great choices that I wanted to try them all. Settled on a 4 choice flight, goblet, fried brussel sprouts, soft Bavarian pretzel, and schnitzel puffs. Beer obviously came first and was all delicious. There were 10 choices. Food came out quickly and was amazing. Enjoyed it all. Very laid back enjoyable time. Steve was a joy too meet. I always love to see someone who is proud of his accomplishments and genuinely enjoying what he was doing. You could see it in the staff as well. Everyone was having fun while working, which makes the guests enjoy it as well. After reading some of the other reviews I was surprised by some of them. This is a brewery, beer is first. Thats the passion. Food is a 2nd addition to compliment the beer, and that it did very well. People reviewing this place like it is a fine dining establishment with a full service wait staff are just off point. That isnt what the place is too be. They nailed the beer and the food is fabulous. Way to go guys, dont change a thing. You have a great thing going and I wish you all the best. Till next...
