I wish the star rating had a minus star because this restaurant would definitely be in the running for negative stars.
I have been going to this restaurant for years but this past visit will be my last.
I started my meal with cold Baby octopus "marinated" in a seasoned olive oil and fresh lemon juice. However, when the dish showed up, the color looked different than I remembered (I had ordered this $15 cold "marinated" dish on several occasions previously). Upon tasting it, it was not tender, but rather had a very slimy/fatty texture and tasted like fish. After just 2 small pieces, I could not proceed and sent it back. The young Manager stopped by and explained that they had just made this dish for us (when I ordered it), and that it was fresh but had not had a chance to "marinate". He made a big deal out of the fact he "would remove it from our bill". Really! You serve me UN-MARINATED octopus that taste like nasty, rubbery fish, and then think you are doing me a favor by removing it from the bill..... (Strike 1- some might say that the pitcher hit the batter)
Strike 2, I felt awkward just eating a small salad so I ordered the moussaka dish, the waitress asked what 2 sides I wanted and asked for the green beans and then asked if I could get 1/2 piece of spinach pie for my 2nd side (they have done this for us previously). She said she would check. A few minutes later, the dish arrived and they included a full piece of spinach pie. The spinach pie was so over microwaved and soggy that I couldn't even eat eat it. At this point, I just wanted to get the hell out of this joint and asked for the bill (I didn't send this dish back but in retrospect, should have)
Strike 3- You're OUT!
Despite asking about the option for the 1/2 spinach pie as a side, the bill reflected an upgrade charge to a combination dinner. So the Manager took upon himself just to upgrade me without my consent and not be professional enough to just say, we can't offer you spinach pie as a side, but if you want to order a combination plate, we have it ($5 uplift). I don't care about the $5, but I do care about the fact that spanakotiropita is supposed to have a hint of flakey filo and the upgrade decision without my consent.
So in summary, if you want: stale bread soggy, Over microwaved, spinach pie food that isn't reflected by their descriptions on the menu (un- marinated octopus) coupled with un-empathetic management, who will make decisions for you....
This is the restaurant for you!
That is the last $81 bill this poorly run establishment will ever see from me. This experience is to Greek food, what Taco Bell...
Read moreWe have been newly exploring Novi restaurants, and just noticed Big Tommy's Parthenon as we were heading to a different Novi restaurant. We made a U Turn to come back to try this restaurant and are so happy that we did.
As we walked in we were asked if we we're having the Sunday brunch buffet or ordering from the menu. We told the hostess that this was the first time there, so we didn't knew. We were seated with tabla served brunch and dinner menus. Before we even had time to look at the menus, our server, Renee was at our table, knowing this was our first visit, and to explain all pf our dining options.
First she described the $24!Sunday brunch buffet and it's very plentiful list of offerings. It sounded very good, and well worth the cozt because of the large variety of options covering fresh fruits, many breakfast offerings including cooked to order omelets and a mice number of hot entrees. Then she went through the other menus explaining the huge number pf options and her recommendations, and in particular the lamb and other Greek specialties once she found out we were lovers of Greek foods.
We ended up ordering Fried Artichokes with Skordalia as our appetizer. This was followed by both my wife and I ordering the Combo, which included the wonderful braised Greek lamb dish in tomato sauce, which was fork tender, a stuffed meat grape leaf, pastitsio, mousaka, rice and green beans. Everything on the menu was house made (except french fries.).
Every bite of our food, from the appetizer to our entrees, was exquisite. This is the best Greek food we have ever had in Metro Detroit, even surpassing the restaurants in Detroit's Greektown. This will be a restaurant that we will frequent regularly.
Before leaving, we ordered carryout of a quart of Avgolemeno (Chicken Lemon Rice soup), and two pieces of the Parthenon Cake made with pineapples. Our wonderful server Renee, who has worked there for 15 years, wanted to know if we wanted to try the soup before ordering it and we declined saying we were positive it would be great after having our other dishes. She brought a small sample of it to our table, followed by a taste of the Parthenon Cake. Before leaving, she also brought a full order of rice pudding, courtesy of the owners for first time customers.
We were so happy having Renee as our server for her friendliness, providing so much information about the menu and the restaurant and owner's history over the years, and making our dining experience feel like we were part of a family...
Read moreWe were frequent patrons of Tommy’s until last night. While walking to the restroom, before ordering any food or beverage, I slipped on a carpet in the hallway outside of the bathrooms. I did NOT trip on the carpet, but rather the carpet slid across the floor and down I went. I am 69 years old, 5 weeks post a spinal fusion, and I fell hard on my hip, buttock and somehow my knee. The pain was horrible, but I chose not to go by ambulance to a hospital, as we were meeting friends for dinner and did not want to ruin their evening. The lack of interest and concern on the owner’s behalf was unbelievable. I guess he felt sending over a complimentary appetizer was sufficient. After we paid our bill, I told the server that I wanted to file an accident report in case I had dislodged the hardware in my back or in the event of necessary medical care. She went to tell him. Ten minutes passed, still no owner/manager. When my husband asked what was taking so long, she said she would get him. Did he bother to come to our table, like a concerned business owner would? No. He sent the form via a server. I filled it out and had to leave as I was in too much pain. When my husband approached the owner to ask for a copy of the accident form, the owner told him that if any problems came up, we would have to deal with the rug rental company, since they provided the service! Is this man stupid????? Did he think we were stupid??? We will never be back. Neither will our friends. The food and the wait staff is excellent! The owner needs to learn how to treat customers injured on his property through no fault of their own with respect and concern. I received neither. I am in considerable pain. One more interesting fact: posted on their door is a prominent sign asking patrons to wipe their feet carefully as the floors are very slippery. If this man would have been the least bit concerned, I would never write this review or consider...
